This Executive Director (ED) Biostatistics position will lead of our Statistical Science pillar, a specialist group that provides expert knowledge of advanced statistical methods and applications. You will provide the statistical thought leadership for the Statistical Science pillar, for the Biostatistics and Programming department, to other departments and to our clients.

As ED Biostatistics/Statistical Science pillar head you will set the strategy and direction for the pillar including line management activities. This includes identifying and prioritising enterprise level activities and initiatives to be supported by Statistical Science, and – where necessary – determine how to develop the necessary skills and experience needed for that. Current areas of statistical focus are adaptive and other innovative designs, Bayesian statistics, estimands, complex missing data analysis approaches, simulations, causal inference and scientific surveillance, so you should be familiar with these concepts and their potential applications. In addition, you will coordinate business development activities for opportunities where key statistical considerations are important or where specialist statistical approaches are required or proposed. You will also oversee the statistical support of cross-functional consulting projects and collaborate closely with other statistical and data science groups within CRG and across Thermo Fisher Scientific, understanding where they have gaps in their knowledge and experience and identifying ways to provide relevant support.

You will also be part of the Senior Leadership Team within the Biostatistics & Programming department.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Statistics

  • 15+ years experience and 8+ years line management experience.

Essential Functions

  • Embodies a sense of shared leadership towards department vision and mission.

  • Collaboratively creates future vision and strategies for the department and provides significant influence to create an inspired workforce to fulfill those visions.

  • Completes long-range strategic planning, develops of departmental business plan, and departmental budget.

  • Partners with senior leaders and/or peers across PD & beyond to mitigate project/client risks and ensure alignment on overarching objectives related to client relationships and studies. Participates as needed to support our Biostatistics and Programming provision of services, including representing our department to our clients, e.g., as part of various executive or steering committees with the client and other functions.

  • Leads the development of service offerings. Represents Biostatistics provision of services in Business Development opportunities and collaborates with other business functions to acquire new and repeat customer business through marketing presentations and preparation of bids.

  • Communicates company and department news, policies, awards, achievements, and business updates to the department workforce.

  • Accountable for people management strategies and decisions including personnel recruitment, promotion, and termination; allocation/coordination of work assignments; and conflict resolution, in compliance with CRG EEO/AA policy.

  • Accountable for developing and growing the workforce by providing resources and opportunities for competency development, completing performance planning activities, conducting succession planning, and conducting regular talent reviews.

  • Assesses department’s adherence to working practices and SOP’s on an ongoing basis.

  • Facilitates changes as needed. Participates in global committees to evaluate companywide direction on these procedures. Reviews and/or approves documents related to project activities.

  • Accountable for the strategic oversight of resourcing for the departments provision of services to our customers, ensuring that appropriate personnel resources are applied to department projects based on deliverable priorities and relative complexity.

  • Provides general development support to the Biostatistics Department. Examples could include presentations of both strategic or tactical nature, providing direction on new process initiatives, contributing to other general department documents or policies, and assure training of new staff.
