The CDM Program is managed within the DHS Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, CISA/Office of Cybersecurity and Communications (CS&C)/Network Security Deployment (NSD) Division, responsible for enhancing the security, resilience, and reliability of the Nation’s cyber and communications infrastructure. The DHS CDM Program mission is to safeguard and secure cyberspace in an environment where the threat of cyber-attack is continuously growing and evolving. The CDM Program defends the United States (U.S.) Federal Information Technology (IT) networks from cybersecurity threats by providing continuous monitoring sensors (tools), diagnosis, mitigation tools, and associated services to strengthen the security posture of Government networks.

This is a remote position where the candidate can work from any location within the United States provided, they are able to work on an eastern time zone schedule.

What You’ll Get to Do:

The Dashboard Solutions Architect responsibilities include conducting a full engineering lifecycle of data that includes requirements from DHS, other OMB initiatives, and provide support for the whole program. This position also requires building a new data automation practice on the program to address our client’s most pressing needs with Cyber Security Threats and Data. The successful candidate will bring a consultative approach to data to improve the value of the data that’s being collected by our customers. This position is also a thought leader in the practice of Big Data in solving our clients’ cyber security problems, coupled with demonstrated experience designing and developing enterprise data solutions for large clients by providing a new approach to the team, presenting white papers and other solutions.

More About the Role:

  • Design and implement ELK (ElasticSearch, Logstash and Kibana) stack solutions primarily on cloud systems using Elastic Cloud Enterprise (ECE)

  • Design the implementation and use of cross cluster search between clusters on different networks

  • Design Index Life cycle management policies over multiple storage tiers to ensure high water / flood stage events do not occur.

  • Develop documentation for operations staff to ensure elasticsearch clusters maintain a healthy state and data volume.

  • Design elements in an environment consisting of hundreds of Elasticsearch clusters.

  • Design, implement, and document the creation of elasticsearch indices, index templates, explicit mappings, data views, Runtime fields, data streams, and ingest pipelines.

  • Design streaming data pipelines using Elastic Beats / Agent on endpoints, fleet server, and elastic integrations.

  • Direct engineers in creating advanced KQL queries to power visualizations, reports, and other use cases as needed

  • Design elasticsearch systems to deploy to docker containers to RedHat Linux hosts.

  • Design dynamic Kibana visualizations to display complex analytics of data stored in elastic indices.

  • Develop data reporting methodologies within Elastic Cloud Enterprise to advance CDM functionality and usability within Agency environments.

  • Direct and assist engineers in creating YAML configuration files for standard elasticsearch and containerized elastic platforms.

  • Design and support the interfacing with a Big Data platform build in the cloud.

  • Investigate alternatives for data storing and processing to ensure implementation of the most streamlined solutions.

  • Collaborate with the Data and Architect team to understand Data that is generated by multiple tools such as Asset Management, Identity Management, Vulnerability management systems.

  • Design solutions using cloud storage offerings that support the scalable processing and storage of our high frequency data.

  • Design automation of manual processes using Python, BASH, PowerShell, or other scripting language

  • Review, Identify, Analyze data from multiple sources of Cyber Security tools at multiple agencies.

  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and support data trends based on the customer needs.

  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.

  • Analyze source data and types, identify data requirements for destination systems.

  • Analyze, interpret, and develop data models on data based on Data Dictionary & Logical Data Models guidance.

  • Locate and define inefficiencies and design new process improvement opportunities.

  • Ensure that mapping of data elements provided by COTS products to the Logical Data Model

  • Research evolving industry technology and trends to continually be innovating and improving our system’s architecture.

  • Other duties as assigned.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Must be a US citizen and pass a background investigation.

  • Able to obtain and maintain a DHS Suitability/Entry on Duty (EOD)

  • Bachelor's Degree complete in applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, electrical engineering, physics, or closely related field

  • Experience with scripting languages like Python, Bash, Powershell, R

  • Knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects, etc.) and databases (SQL, MySql etc.)

  • Understanding of containerized PaaS platforms such as Azure Kubernetes Service or Elastic Kubernetes Service as well as IaaS hosted platforms such as docker

  • Familiarity with the opensource alternatives to licensed Elasticsearch (OpenSearch)

  • Understanding of layer 4 and 7 load balancers

  • Understanding of Public Key Infrastructure, certificates, and encryption

  • Familiarity with AWS and Azure (certification preferred)

  • Proven ability to analyze complex problems, theorize root causes, and develop creative solutions.

  • Proven ability to use multiple REST API authentication types and knowledge of REST methods

  • Design ECE clusters on IaaS VMs behind load balancer services

  • Proven ability to analyze complex problems, theorize root causes, and develop creative solutions.

  • Experience with database query languages like SQL, T-SQL, KQL

  • Advanced understanding of Elasticsearch API calls

  • Command line Linux Operating skills to include mounting of drives, creating file systems, modifying system configuration files, running docker containers.

  • Proficient at queries, report writing and presenting findings.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Experience understanding organizational needs, proposing solutions, and managing project execution efforts designed to deliver overall program benefits for Government Agencies

  • Experience collaborating with US Government Agencies, state or local governments, or commercial entities to develop IT service program maturity in accordance with Federal IT mandates and best practices.

  • Experience in conducting assessments of an Enterprise by reviewing technical documentation, conducting interviews and workshops to identify gaps and develop a tailored solution is highly desired.

  • Demonstrated interest in security solution design using existing as well as emerging technologies to deliver enterprise solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to brief high level corporate and government stakeholders.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Elastic Certified Engineer and Analyst

  • Cloud platform certifications (AWS Architect Associate/Pro, Azure Admin / Architect)

  • Security certification such as CASP, CISSP

  • Familiarity with the Elasticsearch (ELK), Elastic Cloud Computer (ECE), and Elastic Cloud on Kubernetes (ECK) platforms
