SOFTWARE ENGINEER (SPACEX SECURITY) SpaceX is hiring a Sr. Software Engineer to join our Security Engineering team which owns the custom security software, tools, and systems that protect against threats to our rockets (Falcon and Starship) and the network and technology utilized by our astronauts and employees. As a target of nation-states and malicious actors, it is paramount that we defend against loss of control or confidence in our systems to guarantee the highest probability of mission success. You should expect to spend 80% of your time programming, automating, and writing novel security solutions to defend against the constantly changing threat landscape. We are looking for people with a track record of shipping reliable software and who have a broad understanding of security design and best practices. In-depth security experience is not required to be successful in this role - we look for smart, motivated, collaborative software engineers who are excited about solving challenging security problems. RESPONSIBILITIES: Design, build, and maintain software that provides security for SpaceX systems, networks, and data Work with security, IT, and product teams to identify threats and problem areas and use that feedback to further strengthen our tools and technologies Build security-conscious software and processes to support teams across SpaceX, measured in decreased risk and reduction of security issues Collaborate with other multi-disciplinary engineering teams building our rockets and satellites to identify security problems and create efficient solutions Create solutions that are scalable, repeatable, maintainable, and secure Work collaboratively with others, including individuals in Information Security, Physical Security, Information Technology, Human Resources, Legal, and our various software teams Be vocal about security improvements during collaborations on architecture, design, and code reviews BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 7+ years of professional experience in software development in Python, Golang, or Rust in lieu of a degree; Or Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline and 5+ years of professional development experience in Python, Golang, or Rust PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Experience developing software using modern security best practices (i.e. TLS, Zero-Trust) Experience with one or more of the following: SAML/OIDC, mutual TLS, networking, firewalls, vulnerability identification and reduction, threat hunting, container-based security Developed, debugged, and deployed software that has been used in real-world security applications/projects Experience building automation between tools and systems Deep understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment & continuous monitoring Familiarity with enterprise security controls and security best practices for Windows, Linux, and Mac systems Flexibility, communicating clearly, and establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with other engineering teams Ethical character and uncompromised integrity ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Willingness to work extended hours and weekends when needed COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Pay Range: Security Software Engineer / Senior: $168,000.00 - $230,000.00/per year Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary
