Come join our team building best-in-class AI-powered tooling for C++ developers! On the Visual C++ IDE Experience team, we create rich cross-platform C++ language services and features for Visual Studio and VS Code that leverage GitHub Copilot. We are in search of a Software Engineering Manager to lead our C++ Copilot and IntelliSense Team.

The role entails facilitating the delivery of innovative and improved productivity tools to satisfy the evolving needs of millions of C++ developers globally.

Our productivity tools enable our clients to utilize the latest C++ standards, facilitating the creation of modern, high-performing code at scale.

The selected individual will have the opportunity to engage with large-scale enterprise clients, ensuring that our development experiences meet or surpass their expectations.

Our team is currently accountable for several tools, including Visual Studio and VS Code, which target Windows, Linux, MacOS, and more. New features are typically designed for all platforms, and our team actively contributes to the Open Source community.

We primarily utilize C++, C#, and SQL, but adapt to include other languages as needs emerge.

As the Software Engineering Manager in this team, you will be tasked with shaping and implementing quality strategy, liaising with key stakeholders, demonstrating self-direction, and proactively driving issues to resolution, irrespective of organizational structure and team boundaries. You will also be expected to deliver fast, reliable technical solutions for the features we build. Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and testing cutting-edge AI-powered features and tools for C++ developers in Visual Studio and VS Code, such as code completion, chat, refactoring, debugging, testing, and documentation.

  • Working with the latest large language models.

  • Leveraging C++ compiler infrastructure to extract rich semantic and analyzer data from C++ codebases and use this data to improve response quality for all our design time features like IntelliSense, C++ Editor, Expression Evaluator, Refactoring plus all the new AI-powered ones.

  • Experimentally validating your features at scale on a paid user base of millions of customers.

  • Collaborating with other developers, researchers, and product managers to deliver high-quality products.

  • Staying updated on the latest trends and developments in the field of AI, C++, and developer tooling.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C++ and/or C# programming languages. o OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years’ Management experience.

  • Experience developing with AI is a plus.

  • Experience with compilers, parsers or analysers is a plus.

  • Proven track record of shipping secure, high quality software through all phases of the product cycle and have demonstrated successes in cross team partnerships.

  • Experience leading, mentoring and managing a team of software engineers.

  • Proven track record of growing your team and employees.

  • Direct development experience in defining and/or implementing user-facing UI functionality.

  • Desire or experience designing or implementing developer tools or tooling.

Software Engineering M4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
