Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

The Azure Edge & Platform Organization brings together Edge platforms, devices, and services to deliver Edge solutions, operating systems, and engineering system solutions to Azure engineers and customers. Within Azure E+P, Dialtone Build Services is a diverse team focused on ensuring that the Azure codebase can be protected and recovered in the event of a widespread azure outage.

The Dialtone Build Services team is responsible for maintaining an engineering recovery system that can be used to recover Azure in the even that Azure is down. This can be especially challenging as many Azure Services themselves have taken dependencies on Azure services and offerings. This presents a complex dependency ordering problem in the recovery of Azure services. The Dialtone Build Services team works to develop mission critical solutions to these reliability, and dependency problems thereby protecting Azure's ability to recover in the event that Azure itself is unavailable.

As a Software Engineer II on the Dialtone Build Services team, you will be responsible for driving new investments to solve hard problems, defining architectures, partnering with teammates, ensuring high code quality, high availability, and scalability of our services. You will have opportunities to learn and grow in your role developing pipeline features and contributing to our Azure based services as needed. You will partner effectively with mentors on the team to deliver value and impact to the Dialtone Build Services product line.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality features and services (azure based) end to end to support our engineering system from design to development to release

  • Ensure appropriate telemetry, monitoring and alerting for developed features and services

  • Solve significant technological challenges impacting the team and our customers

  • Partner and collaborate with peer engineers and customers to deliver impact for our services

  • Participate and provide high quality feedback in design reviews, code reviews and other team activities

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud platform, especially Azure DevOps, App Services, App Insights, Key Vault, Cosmos DB, Storage accounts, etc.

  • Prior experience with shipping cloud services and having been through more than one development cycle

  • Experience with non-Windows and non-Microsoft technologies such as Docker, Rust or K8s

  • Knowledge and passion for Kanban or Agile development practices, including continuous integration, test-driven development.

  • Possess a sound understanding of Computer Science fundamentals including Algorithms, Data Structures, Object Oriented Design, System Design

  • Great problem solving and design skills, with demonstrated passion for security, quality, performance, and engineering excellence.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200- $208,800 per year.
