Amazon Software Development Engineer, Integrated Vehicle Testing in Redmond, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Development Engineer to architect and implement test solutions for Integrated Satellite Hardware. Our team is responsible for core infrastructure and tools that will serve as the backbone for automated satellite testing operations to enable rapid scaling of manufacturing processes.

In this role you will own the development and implementation of test software for Kuiper integrated vehicle test venues. You will work with engineering teams across ground and space systems to develop and implement test solutions that interact directly with the Kuiper Satellite, scientific test equipment and cloud based backend services. You will lead the development of complex test commanding sequences that coordinate and synchronize equipment and services across multiple layers to verify function and performance of satellite hardware and software. You will work side-by-side with test engineers in our development labs and will interact daily with flight hardware that will become part of our satellite constellation.

The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of software engineering practices, understand how software and hardware systems interact, and can drive design and implementation of operational execution of objectives in complex systems.

Key job responsibilities

  • Understand functional principles of Kuiper satellite hardware, software and all backend services that enable the operation of our constellation.

  • Provide technical leadership and contribute to the definition, development and implementation of test solutions for integrated satellite hardware and software in an ambiguous and complex problem space.

  • Build software solutions to manage infrastructure needed to operate our system in development and production environments.

  • Lead technical roadmap definition efforts and decide what features and performance improvements to build.

  • Design and develop complex test commanding sequences that coordinate and synchronize equipment and services across multiple layers to verify function and performance of satellite hardware and software.

  • Instill best practices for software development documentation, making sure designs meet requirements, delivering high quality software on tight schedules

  • Automate build, test and deploy pipelines.

Export Control Requirement:

About the team

The Integrated Vehicle Test team is responsible for development and execution of test solutions to ensure reliable operation of satellite vehicles in space. The team’s responsibilities include process development, test hardware and software development and execution of tests for development, qualification and production satellites. Expect to be deployed to address complex problems by identifying the scope of the issue and quickly establishing innovative and functional solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Professional Programming experience with Python and at least one of additional programming languages (Rust, JavaScript, Java, C++)

  • Experience working with embedded system and hardware devices

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
