Amazon Senior Software Development Manager, Kuiper Payload in Redmond, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

Key job responsibilities

  • Work with peer teams and customers to design suitable software systems and interfaces with underlying hardware to fulfill the RF Payload needs.

  • Develop a strategic plan for the growth of the team, both from a software and integrated mission outcomes perspective.

  • Hire & Develop a diverse team of software engineers.

  • Aid in the design of mission critical systems in Project Kuiper.

  • Collaborate with your fellow team members to integrate various system elements, both hardware and software.

A day in the life

This role is for a senior leader in the Kuiper Payload Software organization, responsible for driving the research & development, deployment and operation of RF Payload part of the Kuiper satellites and Ground Gateways. You will own the roadmap and mission for Software and work with your customers to refine requirements, understand constraints, hire & grow your team and iteratively deliver value to our customers.

About the team

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Within Project Kuiper, Payload software team is responsible for life-cycle management of RF links, and transporting customer data and Kuiper management/control traffic over RF & Optical links in the Kuiper system.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering experience

  • 5+ years of engineering team management experience

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

  • Experience in RF systems software development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in developing embedded/low-level Networking/distributed software systems in C/C++, and/or Rust.

  • Hands-on experience in developing software for Linux.

  • Hands-on experience with satellite/RF/wireless communications and control/management software.

  • Experience with professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $176,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $342,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
