Meta Product Design Engineer - Design Architect in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

Meta’s Reality Labs team is shaping the future of consumer electronics in the emerging Augmented and Virtual Reality industries. As a Design Architect on the Reality Labs Product Design Engineering team, you will help bring next generation hardware and experiences to life. You bring creative problem solving and hands-on mechanical design skills to create delightful, holistically considered products. You have experience designing, engineering, and shipping consumer products. And you excel working collaboratively with cross-discipline teams. As part of the Concept Architecture division on the AR Product Design Engineering team, you will be working directly with the ID team to create ‘magical’, innovative concepts and prototypes to enable our grand vision for AR Devices. These concepts/prototypes will be grounded in engineering fundamentals through your deep mechanical aptitude and a high degree of DFM expertise where you will be able to take “outlandish ideas” towards “plan of record”. You will be able to move quickly between high-level experience concepts and detailed, functional prototypes that will inform the product decisions and help our teams make the impossible possible.

Product Design Engineer - Design Architect Responsibilities:

  1. Drive rapid mechanical design iteration, exploration, and evolution to deliver elegant, intuitive product solutions

  2. Push the state of the art of physical technology integration and manufacturing processes

  3. Create and refine effective ways to address complex ergonomic challenges

  4. Bring a creative and pragmatic mindset to challenging technical problems to help the team create innovative yet feasible solutions

  5. Partner closely with rest of Product Design Engineering and other internal teams to align intent and rapidly move projects forward

  6. Leverage external partners as needed to implement novel manufacturing solutions

  7. Ability to travel internationally

  8. Collaborate closely with the Industrial Design team to create and prototype integrated mechanical/design solutions

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience

  2. 5+ years of experience developing consumer electronics or similar products

  3. Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancing, and 3D/2D CAD

  4. Expertise in 3D CAD modeling at the detail and assembly level in NX, Creo, or Solidworks, including complex surfacing

  5. Experience working collaboratively with ID, ME, and EE teams

  1. 7+ years of product design and development experience of handheld and/or wearable electronics for high volume manufacturing, including full systems ownership

  2. MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering

  3. Experience with highly cosmetic products and working with Industrial Design

  4. Experience leading technical projects and directing development activities

  5. Expertise in creating high-fidelity mockups, mechanisms, and rapid prototypes

  6. Experience designing plastic and metal parts for high volume manufacturing processes

  7. Experience defining product level mechanical architectures

  8. Proven communication, visualization, and problem solving skills

Public Compensation:

$170,000/year to $240,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
