Microsoft Corporation Principal UX Engineering Manager in Redmond, Washington

We’re seeking a Principal UX Engineering Manager to lead a team of talented UX Engineers developing beautiful, consistent and delightful experiences for OneDrive and Lists. Keys to success encompass cultivating empathy for our customers, facilitating partnerships across the company, growing a team of stellar web and mobile-focused UX Engineers, and partnering closely with other disciplines to improve and scale the design system used by OneDrive web and mobile.

The candidate is passionate about solving problems and has a comprehensive understanding of engineering systems and coding best practices. They have a deep appreciation for quality and understand the work required to get there. Someone who has worked extensively with design systems, visual systems, and the design and development workflow. They have a demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships in cross-functional teams. Most of all, they have empathy for the customer and are motivated by the desire to create experiences people love.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate planning and execution of technical projects with design, engineering, and PM teams

  • Inspire, grow, and manage a team of UX Engineers at different levels of experience and skill sets

  • Work cross-functionally to develop polished components and experiences

  • Offer alternatives when technology constraints require design compromises

  • Evangelize, document and teach both designers and engineers about the value and capabilities of the design system; listening to pain points and barriers and driving updates to controls and documentation to enable easier adoption and cohesion

  • Identify opportunities and build tools or workflows to reduce friction and increase efficiency and quality

  • Communicate clearly and concisely with stakeholders about status and opportunities

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifi cati ons

  • 8+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years people management experience.

Preferred Qualifi cati ons

  • 7+ years experience shipping production code as a result of a collaborative process

  • Demonstrated experience with design systems

  • Experience being responsible for large contributions to new and existing codebases

  • Experience with Figma and Figma component libraries and/or plugins

  • Experience with front-end build systems and tooling

  • Experience with mobile technologies (iOS and Android)

  • Experiencewith front-end technologies, like HTML, CSS, JavaScript,Typescript, Reactand the ability to prototype web designs

  • Experience with animation and/or motion libraries

  • Experience mentoring and coaching engineers and providing clarity in ambiguity

  • Experience working across the full life cycle of a product – ideation, design, develop, implementation, validation, and integration

  • Ability to work cross functionally with other teams (Design, Research, Engineering, PM)

  • Demonstrated understanding of User Research and research methodologies

  • Online portfolio that showcases your work (egGithub, Codepen, Codesandbox)

UX Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
