Optical Engineer (Contract)

SIGMADESIGN has collaborated with a consumer electronics company seeking an experienced Optical Engineer to join their facility in Redmond, WA. This position is a contract with an expected duration of 12 months with the opportunity to be extended.

While on contract with SIGMADESIGN, you will be eligible for the following benefits:

  • Salary: $115,000-140,000/year DOE

    This role is full-time in-office.

    Primary Function:

    The Optical Engineer is a self-motivated engineer with skills in optical laboratory, data analysis, simulation and modeling. It is a fast-paced environment in which they will work closely with a cross-functional team of highly motivated individuals.

    Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, explore, prototype and deploy new technology for module and key optical component testing to support product design and development

  • Document best practices, SOPs, and cost models by working closely with various cross-functional teams

  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.

    Education and Experience: (Knowledge, skills, & abilities)

    • Bachelor's Degree in Optical Science, Optical Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • Hands on experience in an optical laboratory including designing and building experimental setups

  • Experience with optical lab equipment (DAQs, power supplies, oscilloscopes, optical metrology tolls like power meters, etc.)

  • Strong optical simulation experience and system modeling experience.

  • Familiarity with ray tracing tool (i.e. Zemax)

  • Experience with developing and using existing operations and data analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, PowerShell)

  • Document work and write detailed reports

  • Experience working in a rapid prototyping environment is a plus

  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills.

  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group.

  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to SIGMADESIGN Core Values.

  • Pass a post-offer background verification.

    Work Environment

    LAB: Standard lab/production environment. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients or suppliers. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.

    ENGINEERING: Standard office environment with normal amounts of office related conditions. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation.  Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients or suppliers.
