The Role:

Ossia Inc. is looking for a Mechanical Engineer who will engage in all aspects of mechanical design and testing. This position will be a key member of the Mechanical Engineering team on day-to-day tactical assignments.

The Responsibilities:

  • Design and analysis of RF electronics enclosures including thermal/EMI solutions, design for manufacturing, simulation, and test. 

  • Support the mechanical design for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assemblies. 

  • Support customized test fixture design using inputs and requirements from the design and test team, as necessary. 

  • Assemble first article parts and systems, check for fit/function/form, and train technicians in system assembly. 

  • Document bill of materials (BOM), fabrication and assembly drawings for production using industry standard PDM/PLM tools.

  • Respond to department requests for customer and marketing support documentation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering design experience required; consumer electronics industry environment preferred. 

  • 5+ years direct experience and fluency with 3D CAD in SolidWorks. 

  • Experience with PDM usage in SolidWorks PDM.

  • Experience in the design and manufacturing for PCB assemblies (knowledge of materials, processes, interconnect technologies, thermals, and RF shield design). 

  • Experience with mechanical design of RF enclosures, including designing and testing cooling/EMI solutions at the system-level.

  • Experience in creating, reviewing, and maintaining engineering drawings and revisions. 

  • Experience designing parts for both additive and subtractive manufacturing for low- and mid-volume (e.g., 3D printing, CNC machining, urethane casting, soft-tooling, etc.). 

  • Experience designing and supporting injection-molded, die-cast, and sheet-metal parts for high-volume consumer electronics applications. 

  • Hands-on shop skills required (shop hand/power tool use required, basic machinery operating skills preferred).

  • Excellent organizational skills for documentation and ensuring that all work and knowledge is captured for future use. 

  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple work assignments, can maintain a high level of quality under tight schedules. 

  • Experience with designing for reliability, manufacturability, and assembly (DFM, DFA, DFX, and DFMEA preferred).

  • Ability to communicate clearly with internal and external customers.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with thermal simulation using computational fluid dynamics (preferably SolidWorks Flow). 

  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

  • Experience working with ordering and kitting parts for manufacturing and assembly. 

  • Experience with designing for low cost at mid to high-volume.  

  • Proven ability to work in ambiguous environments with little direction; experience working in a start-up is a plus. 

  • Proven ability to generate one’s own requirements and document assumptions to stay on schedule. 

  • Ability to communicate clearly with team members from diverse cultures, experience levels, and skillsets. 

Education:

Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Advanced degree is a plus. 

Salary Range: 110–140K, plus bonus and equity
