Amazon Manual Machinist & Water Jet, Project Kuiper in Redmond, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

Key job responsibilities

  • Prepares and operates High Pressure Water Jet to process/produce high quality products.

  • Responsible for operation, loading and unloading material and parts, proving programs, operating controls, setting offsets, deburring and inspection of quality parts for conformance to requirements.

  • Make necessary adjustments to offsets and maintain part quality throughout the run.

  • Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to insure quality of productions. Reports all machine malfunctions to Management.

  • Communicates with management, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.

  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.

  • Intermediate knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines.

  • Experience with a variety of materials (aluminum, stainless steels, titanium and nickel based alloys) a plus

  • Capable of lifting/moving 30-50 lbs

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A day in the life

The successful candidate will have experience in setting up and machining tight tolerance aerospace components. The desired candidate will have experience in a fast paced machining environment and will have the ability to respond quickly to interruptions and requests to support test teams.

About the team

The Kuiper machine shop provides development fabrication capabilities as well as future production machining. These operations occur in our Redmond facilities.

We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast paced, start-up like environment. To be successful you need to be highly motivated and detail oriented while showing the highest standards of execution.

Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ years of machine shop experience operating waterjet machines

  • 1+ years of experience with manual machining operations

  • 1+ years experience machining tight tolerance, high value components

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Familiarity with AS9100 Quality Management System

  • Fork lift experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $70,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $126,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
