Meta Lead Optical Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Summary:

The Eye and Face Tracking Team is looking for a creative optical systems engineer to help design our next generation Eye and Face Tracking Hardware for Meta products. You will work cross-functionally with algorithm, electrical, mechanical, display, optics, sensor, and other teams to ensure the performance and realization of optical products.You can handle a high degree of ambiguity in product definition, play a critical role in the product engineering process, including product definition, scoping, task management & prioritization, rollout and launch. You are good at making the right engineering tradeoffs in the context of a wider product or project goal. You are sought as a technical mentor, who makes the team more effective by bringing in best practices, identifying & removing bottlenecks, mentoring team members, as well as avoiding common pitfalls. Other engineers and managers look to you for your experience and expertise in the product development process.

Required Skills:

Lead Optical Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Define and design optical components and or systems for next generation AR and VR experience.

  2. Establish engineering specifications, including key performance metrics, test methods, and test requirements for optical components and subsystems.

  3. Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and external industry partners to develop and mature state-of-the-art technologies (e.g. material, process, metrology, and design) to extend the horizon of AR/VR experience.

  4. Lead the development during New Product Introduction (NPI) to scale up for high volume manufacturing.

  5. Define future optics technology roadmap and scope out New Technology Introduction (NTI).

  6. Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally 20%.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS Degree is Optical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline or equivalent industry work experience.

  2. 5+ years experience with imaging and viewing optics design and tolerancing.

  3. 5+ years experience with complex optical and opto-mechanical system design.

  4. Experience with optically graded plastic and glass material, optical and camera testing and metrology, optical fabrication processes (e.g. injection molding, glass molding, optical filming converting).

  5. Experience with display/backlight design and manufacturing or stray light modeling and analysis.

  6. Experience with optical system engineering and cross-functional large volume product development.

  7. Experience with rigorous computational methods in wave optics, including RCWA and FDTD.

  8. Experience in an optical software package (e.g. Zemax, Code V, LighTools, FRED, ASAP, Eikonal, Trace Pro, OSLO).

  9. Communication skills.

  10. Experience with building collaborative relationships to work with internal and external cross-functional teams.

  2. Experience in both sequential and non-sequential optics.

Public Compensation:

$170,000/year to $240,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
