We are looking for a skilled and motivated Research Scientist to join our team, whose mission is to create the future of soft, wearable technology. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in researching novel means of characterizations of wearable technologies and who can work with a team of researchers who are enabling new architectures for wearables. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Required Skills:

Hardware Research Scientist, Wearables Responsibilities:

  1. Identify needs, design, fabricate and validate characterization systems as required by novel wearable actuation and sensing research.

  2. Set up first principles-based analysis for various wearable Hardware Research efforts including mechanical, thermal and electrical energy.

  3. Build complex contact mechanics models that involve consideration of large deformation, surface roughness, adhesion and multi-phase physics.

  4. Derive governing equations for multi-physics processes and solve the equations with analytical or numerical methods.

  5. Apply rigorous physics and engineering analysis in the areas of contact and interface physics.

  6. Partner with research, hardware engineering, and design teams to create and test novel wearable AR/VR devices.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

  2. Ph.D. in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Physics or equivalent

  3. 2+ years of experience in deriving governing equations for complex contact/interface problems that require multi-physics coupling.

  4. 1+ years of experience with numerical methods, such as finite element and finite volume.

  5. 2+ years of experience with a programming language, such as Python, Matlab, C or C++.

  6. Experience with designing and building prototypes/experiments of wearable systems to validate research hypothesis.

  7. Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with skin-device contact modeling, design, build and validation.

  2. Experience with Haptic actuation and systems.

  3. Track record of achieving results, including first-authored journal publications

$117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
