As a Senior HW Engineer at Ossia, you will be responsible to work in RF and EE-related areas of hardware design and development. The position requires proven experience, strong communication skills, and a background in developing commercial products. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment. The successful candidate will be motivated and detail-oriented while showing the highest standards of responsibility and ability to collaborate with colleagues. The ability to provide technical guidance is a definite asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate complex schematic diagrams based upon system requirements

  • Work with PCB CAD tools for simulations and layout.

  • Quickly understand concepts and extract key requirements in RF/EE applications.

  • Circuit-board-level design of a variety of RF blocks or systems in the 5GHz ISM band, for ultimate use in consumer electronics products incorporating wireless power capabilities.

  • Provide guidance in the selection of PCB material and stack-up.

  • Provide floor planning and layout support to the PCB designer.

  • Root cause analysis and mitigation in bring up of newly designed PCBs.

  • Provide technical critique of designs created by other engineers.

  • This is a hands-on position with characterization and validation activities performed in a lab.

  • May work independently or in small teams.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant hardware design experience, including product development.

  • A proven track record of taking products from concept through to volume production. Knowledge of the new product development process and best practices to create a quality design while working within schedule and cost constraints.

  • Experienced in the design of schematics and PCBs.

  • Knowledge of RF design techniques using commercial ICs.

  • Knowledge of the design of RF transmitters and receivers along with commonly used components used in the >2GHz frequency band (e.g. amplifiers, filters, VCO’s, etc.).

  • Familiarity with common test equipment in the evaluation of RF circuits and systems (e.g. spectrum analyzers, high speed oscilloscopes, and vector network analyzers).

  • An understanding of RF design best practices to minimize RF losses and maximize RF isolation; RF transmission line (both microstrip and strip line) design experience.

  • Knowledge of antenna design principles and tradeoffs.

  • Understanding of how to design for low cost, manufacturability, and reliability.

  • Understanding of both theoretical and practical limitations of RF design principles.

  • Strong knowledge of basic EE blocks/interfaces such as power supplies (SMPS, linear, etc.) and digital interfaces (I2C, SPI, etc.)

  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude with a strong motivation of taking on challenging assignments.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Familiarity with wireless standards is desirable.

  • Basic understanding of EMI and regulatory process is an asset.

  • Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up and debugging, functional verification, and manufacturing support is a plus.

  • Familiarity with PCB fabrication basics toward designing high speed digital, analog and RF on same PCB.

  • Ability to create and use modeling tools such as MATLAB, SPICE is beneficial.

  • Experience in working with antenna arrays is highly desirable but not a requirement.
