Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, LLC Electrical Powertrain Software Principal Engineer in Raymond, Ohio

Act as 1st level mentorship/point of contact for technical questions/concerns from junior engineers within their technical subject matter area. Create/use engineering specifications to design/clarify test procedures and standards for PICs within their technical subject matter area. Make clear the background or history of a requirement so that the viewpoint is understood. Work with Technical Expert to define new procedures and refine existing ones based on new company requirements or efficiency objectives. Technical evaluation document template creation, ensuring quality & consistency of output. 1st level check of each project's Technical Evaluation documents and Test Reports, ensuring D-QS adherence. Support the creation of individual project-specific development plans and schedules within technical subject matter expert, to ensure junior engineers have a comprehensive understanding of all required design and validation activities. 1st level check of all supplier or Honda-internal specification documents prior to Technical Expert review. Review all supplier Q&A together with engineer assigned to the project. Report concern(s) items and identify/propose C/Ms for resolution after conducting thorough root cause analysis. Identify group inefficiencies and propose solutions/prioritizations to mitigate unnecessary workload and downstream impact. Work with suppliers to coordinate requirements, schedule activities, and address non-project specific issues in a timely manner. Create an onboarding training plan for each engineer within technical subject matter area. Regularly review the learning status with each member, refine the focus areas accordingly. Work with other Section Leaders within department to create and maintain new engineer onboarding plans, to ensure consistency and thorough training for everyone. Less than ten indirect reports (this role relates to teaching/coaching other members, not direct supervision). Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering; 4 years experience creating validation specifications for Electronic Control Units (ECU) functions in the automotive industry; 2 years experience in creating report documents using MS PowerPoint or equivalent tools; 2 years experience in analyzing Electronic Control Unit (ECU) measured data to find vehicle problems or make conclusions about ECU functions using MS Excel or MATLAB or equivalent tools; 2 years experience changing ECU calibration data or collecting ECU data using ETAS INCA or equivalent tool; and 2 years experience communicating with engineers from other departments, organizations or suppliers. 10% both domestic and international travel required.
