Rotary Systems Technical Sales Engineer in Ramsey, Minnesota

TECHNICAL SALES ENGINEER

Department: Sales

Position Summary:

A Technical Sales Engineer at Rotary Systems will never face a boring day. You will be responsible for growing the company’s top accounts and closing on leads with high earning potential. Strong mechanical aptitude is a must for this position as it is your responsibility to understand the customer’s application needs and recommend the best Rotary Systems part or assist in the custom design process. We have our own product line, yet we have made over 3,000 custom rotary unions and slip rings. Your accounts will primarily be OEM customers from nearly every industry to include: aerospace, space, satellite, defense, robotics, automation, packaging, food and beverage, semi-conductor, and more. Expect to travel one week a month.

Responsibilities:

• Cultivate relationships with current and prospective customers

• Qualify company generated leads through phone/email conversations and internet research

• Utilize company ERP for customer management and documenting sales funnel steps

• Recommend available Rotary Systems solutions to solve the customer’s needs

• Gather all necessary information for building an accurate quote and deliver

• Follow-up on completed sales to ensure customer satisfaction

• Create new business opportunities from current customers

• Conduct market research to facilitate marketing campaigns

• Continuously build and maintain application, industry and technical knowledge

• Develop and deliver sales presentations and effectively close sales

• Work as a team with other company departments and staff

• Develop and maintain intimate customer knowledge and understanding to decisively determine the appropriate time to leverage internal company resources and personnel to close the sale

• Effectively hand-off customer management or account management to other team members

• Develop in-depth Rotary Systems product knowledge

• Other duties as needed to support the sales department

• Participate in sales forecasting and planning; meet reporting and sales activity requirements as defined by management

• Professionally communicate in a proactive and timely manner with customers to identify customer needs (where RSI provides value), and propose solutions in an effective manner to meet customer requirements

• Represent company at trade shows, industry conferences and in the field at customer locations

• Respond to incoming customer web and phone inquiries in a timely and efficient manner

Required Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED

• 2-year or 4-year college degree in business, marketing, engineering or a related technical field is preferred

• 5-10 years’ experience in technical sales or similar role with strong customer interaction

• Electrical and mechanical aptitude

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Clear, efficient, effective communicator

• Outstanding listening skills and open-ended questioning to allow for customers to communicate and the technical sales candidate to learn the customers’ application

• Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, absorb information and retain knowledge

• Must be self-motivated and organize your own workload

• Experience using MRP/ERP systems is preferred

• Patience for long sales cycles

• Solve problems with minimal direction

• Ability to switch focus and change direction fast

• Must be computer literate with good communication skills utilizing Microsoft Office software

• Professionally aggressive and passionate about solving customers’ challenges

• Strong attention to detail
