JMT is seeking a Senior Structural / Bridge Engineer with 10+ years of relevant experience in analysis and design of new and rehabilitation structures, to join our bridge engineering team.

As the successful new hire, you will have strong design skills, manage tasks and projects, mentor, and lead team members designing highway bridges; retaining walls; load rating, and other related structures. You will support a wide variety of structural transportation projects for state departments of transportation, county, municipal and private clients and will be offered the opportunity to work on related structures in other states as part of our interoffice work collaborative. This will allow you to enhance your project experience, knowledge and networking throughout the company.

Position summary: Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers. U.S. Residency Required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Prepares/performs and checks structural analysis, design plans, specifications, and estimates for bridge projects while working collaboratively with multi-discipline design teams

  • Ability to serve in a lead technical role on bridge or structural design projects

  • Develops/prepares construction documents (drawings, specification, and cost estimate)

  • Maintains knowledge of state DOT and local agency design standards and criteria, practices, and policies

  • Performs structural analysis/design and lead/mentor team members through the design process

  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools

  • May perform structural inspections/field investigations (if needed) and develop related reports

  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope

  • May manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines

  • Attend meetings with clients

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

Required SkillsRequired Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program

  • 10+ years’ experience in bridge design and analysis, including plan development.

  • Proficient in discipline specific design software (i.e. LEAP Bridge Enterprise, LPile, MDX, CSiBridge, Merlin DASH, Bentley Microstation and /or OpenRoads/Bridge software)

  • Proficient in plan development using Microstation

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Written and communication skills

Preferred Experience

  • Professional Engineer License (ability to be licensed in SC)

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
