Basic Function

Sr. Project & Program Manager – Editorial System will manage editorial system and related business process improvement projects relating to content creation and maintenance. They will support the Director, Editorial Process and VP, Content Editing by managing the preparation of backlogs and roadmaps, identifying strategic initiatives for editorial teams and collaborating with the scrum lead and developers to create stories and prioritize work. They will help communicate the work of the team by preparing presentation materials to be used in prioritizing the project portfolio and demonstrating what the editorial system projects are and what value they bring to our product.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

Collaborate with stakeholders across CE teams (eg, CE Editorial teams, Product, Engineering teams) to maintain and expand our editorial content management platform with an emphasis on:

  • opportunities to boost productivity and editorial user interface and tools

  • opportunities to serve new use cases

  • opportunities to incorporate advanced technologies

  • alignment with key product growth strategies and initiatives

Work with stakeholders to coordinate and execute on roadmaps

  • Collect and understand needs, define requirements, write stories and work with scrum team to schedule work against roadmap plans

  • Develop roadmap annually and adjust each quarter, working with scrum lead to allocate resources and allow parallel work for projects

  • Identify potential project risks and escalate for remediation and reprioritization

  • Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders and effectively communicate project progress, status, and outcomes.

Manage the editorial system backlog, according to points budget for editorial work

  • Uses working knowledge of our unique and complex editorial system and editorial practices to prioritize stories and bugs in the backlog to achieve roadmap goals

  • Ensure backlog is easily visible, with tags for various efforts, and clear to product owners and scrum team

  • Validate and accept stories, pulling in other team members as needed

  • Identify needed changes and interventions to ensure project goals are achieved, analyzing potential risks, exercising judgement and proposing options to team

Communicate strategy, roadmap plans, and project status

  • Produce regular program dashboards to demonstrate overall program status as well as individual projects

  • Using project management tools, create and maintain Jira dashboards or Confluence pages to ensure clear communication to the company and to stakeholders

  • Produce quarterly business reports to demonstrate roadmap progress, overall strategy, and showcase different projects – demonstrate the value of our editorial system and roadmap

Other Duties

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree demonstrating evidence of communication skills, analytical thinking, and collaborative problem solving

Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience with software development for business or editorial systems

  • 3+ years’ experience working within an editorial team using content management tools as an editor or other content team member

  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience managing projects in Agile software development environments preferred

Skills:

  • High level of initiative and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to collect, absorb, and analyze information quickly and independently.

  • Ability to effectively work within a team, and be a leader across teams to manage projects of varying complexity

  • Actively listens, builds trust, and adapts style and tactics to fit the audience

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to operate effectively in matrixed and global organization

  • Experience with MS Suite, Confluence, Jira and willingness to become proficient with these tools
