Description

As a member of the Business Development & Marketing Department, the Business Development Specialist works collaboratively within the Business Development team to support business development initiatives, including the pitch and proposal process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Business Development Support

  • Serve as a primary business development contact for select practice groups under the direction of the Assistant Director of Business Development Support and assigned Business Development Manager.

  • Provide high-level support to members of the Business Development team, coordinate marketing and business development opportunities, and implement business development initiatives to support select practice group plans, both independently and with supervisor input.

  • Conduct research on clients, prospects, industries, conferences, and membership organizations. Provide recommendations and summarize findings into clear, presentable formats.

  • Identify and analyze industry trends as well as cross selling opportunities.

  • Research thought leadership opportunities for lawyers and assist in proposal submissions.

  • Track and analyze leads from sponsorships and other marketing and business development initiatives to assess ROI.

Pitch and Proposal Support

  • Work closely with the Assistant Director of Proposals and in collaboration with lawyers and administrative groups to drive a successful response strategy in creating and delivering high-quality responses for Request for Proposals (RFPs), Request for Information (RFIs), Request for Qualifications (RFQs) and other solicitations from existing clients and prospective clients.

  • Handle larger scale, more demanding, and specialized proposals (e.g., creditor committee pitches, highly tailored proposals, etc.).

  • Prepare customized pitches and proposals for prospective and existing clients with guidance from Business Development Managers and Assistant Director of Proposals. Draft original proposal content, including executive summaries, cover letters, and other tailored materials with minimal input.

  • Meticulously proofread proposal drafts and content by attorneys and other team members, making content suggestions, rewriting and correcting content as needed, and ensuring proposals strictly adhere to all RFP requirements.

  • Work with the Assistant Director of Proposals to manage the experience database and standard proposal content.

  • Track pitch, RFP and business development activities in InterAction and in the experience database.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES):

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in marketing, business, communications or a related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of related work experience, preferably in the legal marketing or professional services industry.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading capabilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and analytical skills.

  • Detail-focused; high level of accuracy is a must.

  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to anticipate needs and exercise sound judgment.

  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to prioritize deadlines, stay poised under pressure, and multi-task with a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, analyze situations and suggest appropriate solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals at all levels across the Firm as well as within the Business Development and Marketing Department.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Must be self-motivated, resourceful, and reliable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.

  • Ability to maintain professional standards of confidentiality, tact, and discretion.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary work: Exertion of physical strength to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

VISUAL ACUITY

Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
