City of Radford Equipment Mechanic in Radford, Virginia

Equipment Mechanic - The City of Radford is seeking an Equipment Mechanic in the Public Works Department. The equipment mechanic will work under the supervision of the Garage Supervisor. The successful candidate must be state inspection licensed and ASE refrigerant licensed. The Equipment Mechanic must have the ability to maintain and repair gas and diesel automotive and construction equipment; will also repair small equipment such as tractors, chain saws and pumps; must have the ability to trouble shoot electrical automotive problems and the necessary skills to identify, repair and replace defective parts. General knowledge of methods, tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of vehicles ranging from passenger cars to fire, police and construction equipment. Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods while being exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards and oils. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in repairing automotive and power-driven equipment. Exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Starting salary $17.74 an hour plus an excellent benefit package that includes enrollment in VRS and 100% employer paid insurance for employee medical and dental with no deductible.
