Job Description Summary

The engineer in this role will be working on the advanced engine programs, that will shape the future of aviation, with leading edge technologies that are focused on minimizing or eliminating the CO2 emissions during flight.

Activities aimed at proving engine external hardware concepts to be valid or technically feasible by the application of scientific and engineering methodologies. Work in this family typically has the objective of demonstrating through test or analyses the performance and implementation potential of a concept.

Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The engine externals Configurations engineer will work on the engine installation hardware. Designing of any of the engine external components: brackets, hoses, tubes, ducts, heatshields, manifolds or electrical harnesses.

  • Conceptual or theoretical activities related to the principles of engineering, physics, and materials science for the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Includes the analysis of static (structural) and dynamic (rotordynamics, vibrations) behavior of mechanical systems.

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products.

  • The engine externals Configurations engineer requires coordination with other disciplines, partners, and the customer, to negotiate interfaces and new locations for the external engine hardware, that will be part of the re-design of new engine demonstrator program.

  • Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.

  • Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to design tubes, ducts, hoses or electrical harnesses and their corresponding supporting hardware, for aircraft engine application. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

  • May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.

  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in new product development and a design cycle methodology.

  • Experienced in the design of mechanical components in a dynamic application (high temp and vibration environments).

  • Familiar with Finite Element Analysis.

  • Familiar with dimensional stack-ups and GD&T

  • Familiar with CAD tools, preferably with NX Siemens

  • Understanding of pressure vessel analysis, stress analysis, modal and vibrations analyses.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills (English & Spanish). Ability to document, plan, present, and execute programs.
