Job Brief

Performs preventive maintenance, repairs, conversions and road call services for agency wide vehicles and outside contracts.

Shift Worked:

8:00am to 4:00pm (Monday - Friday)

POSITION DUTIES:

  1. Ensures requirements for all aspects of Department of Transportation (DOT) vehicle preparation and inspection procedures, inclusive of building working relationships with DOT inspectors.

  2. Assumes a leadership role during snow removal, including arrival to work early enough to prepare all vehicles service.

  3. In the absence of the Director or Associate Director, assumes responsibility for the ordering of parts needed for repairs.

  4. Performs preventive maintenance work on fleet vehicles as outlined in company maintenance program.

  5. Performs all routine repairs.

  6. Performs major repairs, as assigned, such as removal / reinstallation of motors and transmissions. Responds to on the road breakdowns.

  7. Diagnoses mechanical and /or electrical problems and effect necessary repairs as instructed. Performs conversion work on vehicles for wheelchair accessibility. This includes installation of ramps, lifts, seatbelts, seats, and wheelchair securing systems, buzzer and lighting systems, etc.

  8. Completes and submits repair orders and P.M. sheets; field maintenance checklists.

  9. Performs field maintenance checks of vehicles at other facilities outside of the garage location.

  10. Removes, dismounts, mounts tires on all vehicles in its place.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned such as steam clean vehicle interiors to remove contaminates such as urine, vomit and other spills.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Minimum five (5) years experience in commercial automotive repairs establishment.

  2. Knowledge of hydraulic systems (lifts and brakes); air systems (a/c, air brakes, air ride suspension); diesel; computerized electrical systems; anti lock brake systems.

  3. NYS C.D.L. class B license with air brake endorsement.

  4. Acceptable drivers abstract, containing no more than a combination of 2 moving violations or accidents within the last 3 years.

  5. Knowledge and ability to use the following types of machinery.

  6. Performs all job responsibilities in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Adheres to the agency’s corporate compliance program, including the code of business conduct, the NYS and Federal False Claims Acts, whistleblower protections and mandatory reporting. Completes corporate compliance training at least annually. Fully cooperates in all corporate compliance investigations and reviews.
