Samaritan Daytop Village Driver in Queens, New York

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

Under general supervision, is responsible for transporting staff, clients, and supplies in a safe and orderly fashion by agency vehicle to appointments, other agency sites, etc. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Transports clients in agency vehicle to other program sites, recreational outings, appointments, public transportation, out in community, etc.

  • Picks up and delivers supplies from vendors, other sites, etc. as needed.

  • Transports staff to other sites as needed.

  • Observes all traffic and vehicle operation laws towards to ensure safe and legal operation of agency vehicles.

  • Maintains and updates Vehicle Trip Logs on a daily basis.

  • Follows agency vehicle emergency procedures in case of an accident.

  • Inspects vehicles prior to use in order following agency vehicle checklist to ensure that they are maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition.

  • Demonstrates a professional standard of conduct in representing agency out in community.

  • Drives to and from agency sites to pick up items i.e. mail as requested.

  • Reinforces agency policy in using vehicle safety/seat belts.

  • Maintains vehicle by ensuring regular preventive maintenance work is performed.

  • Ensures that vehicle is cleaned and fueled on a regular basis.

  • Performs other duties as requested.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Required Education, Experience and Skills:

  • High School Graduate or GED.

  • Must have at least Five years prior driving experience, preferably with 15 passenger transportation vehicles.

  • Willingness to transport clients as needed.

  • Clean NYS Driver's License.

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

    License/Certification Required:

  • Valid New York State Driver’s License

    Preferred Education, License/Certification, Experience and/or Skills:

  • Knowledge of DHS regulations and systems (CARES} a plus.

  • Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients and staff

  • Must be able to pass appropriate driving background check in LENS

  • Knowledge of techniques for identifying and preventing potentially violent behavior, including crisis management techniques.

  • Knowledge of Clients Rights and Code of Conduct in NYC Shelter Systems.
