MITRE's Expeditionary Department is actively searching for a dynamic and self-driven individual to take on the role of Senior Systems Engineer. As a pivotal part of our team, you will contribute to delivering cutting-edge concepts, technologies, and methodologies that contribute to the ongoing and future excellence of the Naval Division. In this position, you will be at the forefront of creative problem-solving, employing innovative applications of systems-of-systems engineering and strategic enterprise architecture. We are seeking an ideal candidate with a deep operational and domain knowledge of the Marine Corps, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of tactical architectures, capability and requirements analysis, and related techniques. The successful candidate will thrive in collaborative environments, working seamlessly with diverse and geographically dispersed teams. Your mission will be to address our sponsors' most challenging questions, applying systems engineering principles to critical system deployments.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee tasks and projects, guiding teams to achieve project objectives and resolve sponsor problems effectively.

  • Develop intricate system architectures using standards-based languages, such as SysML/UML, ensuring robust and comprehensive modeling.

  • Assess and compare alternative architectures through qualitative and quantitative techniques, providing valuable insights.

  • Clearly articulate major uncertainties related to systems architectures, define associated risks and opportunities, and develop strategies to address them.

  • Provide support for requirements management, interface management, and architecture change management processes.

  • Collaborate closely with sponsors and internal teams, identifying critical problems and engineering effective approaches to resolve them.

  • Apply systems engineering principles to facilitate evidence-driven decision-making by sponsors.

  • Foster collaboration across the organization, tapping into diverse perspectives and solutions to address sponsor problems.

  • Communicate highly technical analyses and recommendations clearly and concisely through written and verbal products to sponsors and partners.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically, a Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline (e.g., information systems, systems engineering, computer science, operations research, or information technology) with 5 years of related experience, or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Relevant experience in systems analysis and integration, mission analysis, capabilities development, requirements analysis, and/or business process analysis.

  • Proven application of model-based systems engineering and digital engineering using SySML and tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, Magic Systems of Systems Architect, and Rhapsody.

  • Knowledge of Department of Defense’s (DoD) acquisition and requirements processes.

  • Demonstrated experience performing impactful analytical work.

  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Knowledge of Navy, Marine Corps, Joint, and Interagency domains.

  • A current and active DoD Secret clearance, with eligibility for Top Secret/SCI.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a technical discipline (e.g., information systems, systems engineering, computer science, operations research, or information technology) with 3 years of related experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise in technical management and leadership roles for Systems Engineering (SE) projects that require cross-disciplinary collaboration.

  • Proven application of model-based systems engineering and digital engineering using SySML and tools such as Cameo, Magic Systems of Systems Architect, and Rhapsody.

  • Knowledge of Analysis of Alternatives, Verification and Validation, Design of Experiments, and data analytics.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Navy and Marine Corps domain and operational environment.

  • A current and active DoD Top Secret clearance.
