Staples Supervisor-In-Training Full Time 1st Shift in Putnam, Connecticut

Shift: 9:00AM-5:15pm/Monday-Friday - OT as required

Competitive Pay Rate: $21.76 - $28.83/hour

What you’ll be doing:

The Supervisor-in-Training program is a two-phase process to provide training and development for non-exempt associates to be qualified for a supervisory role in a Fulfillment Center (FC), Distribution Center (DC), or SDO. SIT candidate rotates through all departments of the facility to develop operational knowledge and leadership abilities, utilizing a structured training and development approach.

Phase I – Associate will gain detailed operational knowledge of each department in the FC, DC or SDO and develop basic leadership competencies. The SIT candidate is responsible for owning their training plan to ensure a strong understanding of the functions of each department, as well as learning and practicing leadership skills in accordance with the training plan. In addition, an Operations Manager Candidate will partner with a Mentor for coaching and advocacy for leadership and human relations skills development. Phase I may last up to 6 months. Successful completion of Phase I may provide an opportunity to complete Phase II of the program, as needed.

While in the training program, the trainee will be relieved of his/her regular duties. The trainee will work alongside the operational leader and/or mentor to gain competency in the following areas:

  • Analysis of improving department processes and procedures

  • Development and achievement of performance goals and objectives

  • Development of leadership and human relations skills

  • Communication and teamwork amongst staff

  • Understanding and use of facility and company systems

  • Understanding and control of department functions and procedures

  • Representing Staples and the facility in a positive, professional manner

Completion of the program will depend on the trainee’s abilities, job knowledge and technical skills. The trainee will be provided professional development to include courses in supervision and attendance in all leadership training sessions.

What you bring to the table:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including listening, follow-up, coaching, and support.

  • Ability to be the owner/driver of your learnings: job skills, processes, procedures, and relevant job knowledge.

  • Possess a sense of urgency required to work in a deadline driven environment.

  • Ability to use a computer, including basic Word and Excel.

  • Ability and willingness to be trained and use: pallet jack, TCM, knife, scanner, computer, calculator, printer, two-way radio, load bar, stretch wrap.

  • Associate relations skills; ability to direct, coach, support, and delegate and maintain morale.

  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.

  • Flexibility; acceptance of changes and challenges

Qualifications:

What’s needed- Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 1+ year of experience working in a warehouse environment.

  • Flexibility to work any shift schedule

What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Experience and working knowledge of warehouse systems, processes and productivity standards (WMS, computerized systems, SPC – statistical process control – and related ability to recognize, articulate and address variances in processes).

  • Eagerness and ability to learn - absorb new information quickly, including MHE certification

  • Initiative to work with minimal instruction and direction.

  • Demonstrated potential for analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
