Miller Boat Line Ferry and Facilities Maintenance Technician in Put-in-Bay, Ohio

Miller Boat Line is currently hiring a dedicated Ferry and Facilities Maintenance Technician. Interested applicants should be able to perform Maritime and Light Industrial and Light Commercial Maintenance. 

$28.00-48.50 per hour based on experience, great benefits. Expected hours: 32 -- 54 per week Full-time, year-round or seasonal position. Average of 40 hours per week.

Miller Boat Line's Engineers are maintenance technicians responsible for maintaining Miller Boat Line's fleet of 5x USCG certified Subchapter-K RoPax ferries. They also lead other company personnel in maintaining the equipment and building systems throughout Miller Boat Line's grounds, properties, and operations.

Scope of Responsibility: The Maintenance Technician reports to the Chief Engineer and assists him or her with maintaining all company property, especially the vessels and terminals.

Technical Duties include (but are not limited to) regular maintenance and troubleshooting of: diesel and gasoline engines, electric motors and pumps, hydraulic systems, various piping systems, ship and shoreside electrical systems, light vehicle maintenance, building maintenance not limited to moderate plumbing, light to moderate electrical wiring and upkeep of other ships systems.

Other technical duties include fitting and welding of steel for vessels and dock infrastructure, field engineering, complete rebuilds of water pumps and various other pieces of equipment, winterizing vessels and equipment and grounds.

Administrative Duties include: preparing vessels for yearly and 5-year drydock U.S. Coast Guard inspections, escorting U.S. Coast Guard personnel through the vessels during inspections and running necessary drills as required; writing reports and corresponding with vendors, contractors, company management and USCG through email in a professional, knowledgeable manner; using the company work-order and asset management program.

Sailing Duties: upon hire, the maintenance technician shall be trained as a deckhand onboard the vessels. Candidates who currently hold a valid USCG 100 Ton Great Lakes Master's License and have the aptitude to operate commercial vessels are preferred.

Management: the maintenance technician will often act as project manager and crew lead in charge of overseeing several other employees.

Hours: The maintenance tech works an average of (but not limited to) 40 hour weeks on a schedule that is predetermined by the Chief Engineer and/or the General Manager based upon maintenance cycle and crewing requirements. Shift times vary from early morning to afternoon/evening to

overnight and may be different day-to-day. Must be able and willing to work nights upon occasion for up to six weeks in a row. Work on weekends and holidays is frequently required, especially during operating season of March-January. Overtime or odd shift hours occur more frequently during peak season. Winter lay-off is an option if the candidate wishes to take several months of leave approximately January 15th to March 1st.

Requirements:

Candidate Must have the following Capabilities or Qualifications:

· Pass a pre-employment USCG required DOT Drug Test, submit to random testing.

· 15 years good standing in gainful employment.

· 10 years experience in building and/or industrial systems applicable to this job description.

· High School Diploma or GED

· Must be able to obtain a TWIC, Merchant Mariner Credential, and FCC Radio Operator License.

· Must hold a valid drivers license

· Must be capable of obtaining First Aid and CPR certificates from the American Heart Association.

· capable of lifting 50lbs-100lbs occasionally, capable of lifting 150lbs on extremely rare emergency occasion (example: man overboard retrieval, electric motor swap)
