Title and Summary

Senior Analyst - Legal Compliance

Senior Analyst supervises a team of AML professionals responsible for transaction monitoring and sanction screening alert reviews and detailed investigations in support of the MTS Transaction monitoring and sanction screening program. The Senior Analyst will oversee the work of a team of investigators to ensure all transaction activity is effectively monitored for possible fraud and / or involvement of sanction individual / entity and that suspicious activity is appropriately investigated, evaluated, documented and addressed. This position requires a very sound operations management/supervisory background and direct experience with Transaction monitoring.

Role:

  • Provide Direct Supervision of investigators: 10%

o Establish staff performance goals, assess performance, and assist in conducting staff performance evaluations.

o Ensure investigators meet key performance objectives to support the Company’s overall AML mission.

o Interview candidates and make hiring recommendations for open positions.

o Make salary, promotion, and employment termination recommendations.

o Track team performance and productivity.

  • Quality and Organizational Responsibilities: 10%

o Assist in AML quality control processes in concert with the function’s overall Quality Control (QC) program.

o Ensure staff obtain ongoing comprehensive training and professional development regarding AML trends and customer and product risks.

o Ensure satisfactory compliance with the AML policies.

  • Subject Matter Expertise and Continuing Education Responsibilities: 10%

o Demonstrate and maintain effective knowledge of simple and complex financial activities, including but not limited to: international money remittance, global markets products and services, corporate and personal transactions.

o Keep abreast of current regulatory developments to ensure the implementation of appropriate AML operational procedures related to fraud and sanctions.

  • Supervise Daily Activities of the Unit: 60%

o Assist the Transaction monitoring Manager in establishing and maintaining efficient techniques and methods for evaluating customer activity related to fraud and sanctions, enabling assigned staff to effectively identify situations requiring Suspicious Activity Reporting or escalation to senior leadership

o Build and maintain positive professional relationships with other AML policy, governance and strategy departments.

o Establish and maintain superior customer service protocols with business partners.

o Provide technical guidance and mentoring to staff with respect to monitoring techniques, research, and documentation standards.

o Provide coaching and training for new employees.

o Manage staffing of team to achieve departmental objectives. Establish workload priorities and assign work to investigators for transaction monitoring / sanction screening / fraud alerts, investigations and/or quality control activities.

o Act as escalation point for activities warranting further review, investigation, or notification. Review alert and cases prepared by investigators to ensure decision-making is appropriate and documented, alert and case narratives are complete, accurate and comply with internal policies.

o Ensure decisions to file or not to file a SAR are well supported and documented.

o Help develop strategies and implement plans to address new and emerging product, customer and transaction risks based upon analysis.

  • Additional Duties as Assigned and Compliance and Regulatory Responsibilities: 10%

o Assist the Manager to prepare for and respond to internal audit and regulatory examination reviews.

All About You

  • Professional experience

o Minimum 4 years of Transaction Monitoring - investigative or related experience with specific emphasis on Sanctions and/or fraud prevention at a financial institution preferably in International Money Remittance business.

o Minimum 2+ years of managerial and supervisory experience, preferably involving at least 4 professional staff members.

  • Educational qualifications

o Bachelor's degree in Legal, Business or related field of study.

o AML related professional certifications such as or CAMS are highly desirable.

  • Interpersonal skills

o Excellent interpersonal abilities including superior oral and written communication skills.

o Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines

o Ability to handle issues and concerns with tact and diplomacy

o Willing to work on shifting schedule

o Additional language skills – Urdu / Arabic / Bangla / Nepali / Indian regional language is highly desirable

  • Technical / AML skills

o Expert knowledge of AML laws and regulations relative to money laundering and terrorist financing and the ability to apply this knowledge in assessing customer activity and monitoring of high-risk customer accounts.

o Experience reviewing and analyzing international money transfer transaction activity highly desirable

o Knowledge of AML “red flags”, particularly with respect to international money remittance with specific emphasis on Sanctions and fraud prevention is highly desirable.

o Demonstrated experience in reporting and/or using Suspicious Activity Reports.

o Proficient in the application of various automated systems used to monitor transaction activity.

o Understanding of money remittance products and services and how they may be exploited for criminal purposes, including but not limited to money laundering and terrorist financing activities.
