Purpose of the Position:

Role supports Corning’s Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering (MT&E) corporate engineering directorate based in Asia to support all Corning Incorporated manufacturing plants in Asia-Pacific regions. Project assignments may involve extensive travel of up to 75% to India, Vietnam,Taiwan, Japan, China, S. Korea, Europe, and USA.

Project involved with:

Project focus will be the implementation of robust, cost-effective automation and process machine systems in Corning’s manufacturing plants and will require collaboration with manufacturing, control system, process engineering, and other related organizations.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the accuracy of work performed; takes a proactive approach to ensure high quality of work.

  2. Able to work independently todevelop process equipment design concepts and detail mechanisms in response to manufacturing issues/problems.

  3. Communicate ideas and project status clearly and professionally through graphic and written media and oral presentations.

  4. Provide necessary documentation of activities, results and assignments.

  5. Direct vendors in the construction of prototype and production equipment. Perform tests and evaluate data to make preliminary recommendations regarding equipment performance.

Education & Experience:

  • BS or above degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • At least 3 years of working experience with mechanical design and equipment construction is a plus.

Required Skills:

  • Proficient in AutoCADand SOLIDWIRKS/Inventorsoftware.

  • Detail oriented and able to perform with limited supervision.

  • Effective, high quality oral and written communication skills

  • Proactive, independent, flexible, quick learner

  • Excellent computer skills (working knowledge and use of Microsoft Office)

  • Customer oriented; meets customer needs with quality results.

  • Ability to build effective working relationships with others.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities successfully.

Desired Skills :

  • Experience on precision equipment design andsuch as precision stage, CNC for cutting/grinding, precision conveyor, facility automation, CCD integration.

  • CAD/CAM capability especially for CNC application would be a plus

  • Experience in equipment design field and engineering analysis FEA (Ansys/ LS-Dyna)would be a plus

  • Strong capability of mechanical drawing comprehension

  • Familiar with error budget method

  • Familiar withGD&T, Pneumatic, Hydraulic and Mechanical components.

  • Familiar with manufacturing method- Milling, Turning, Grinding, Sheet metal, etc

  • Familiar with vibration mechanical components and system.

  • Familiar with contract manufacturing and negotiate with vendor on design, cost, schedule, and so on.

  • Project management skill and good communication capability

  • Familiar with industrial safety standards

Travel Requirements: (National/International; 0-100%)

75% international travel possible depending on project(s) assigned.

Travel will be primarily within the Asia region but occasional trips to US/Europe are likely.

Travel to India (Domestic business trip) will be necessary depending on project assignment
