Purpose of Job

Design and documentation of projects under the instructions and guidance of a Project Manager or Project Engineer in accordance with quality standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize Lighting Layouts: Develop innovative lighting concepts and layouts for a variety of projects, from residential to commercial and hospitality.

  • Interpret Architectural Documents: Read and interpret elevations, architectural schedules, and other construction documents to inform lighting design decisions.

  • Technical Lighting Drafting: Produce detailed technical drawings and lighting layouts, hand sketches, CAD, and Bluebeam documents for lighting design and installation.

  • Lighting Schedule Preparation: Compile lighting schedules, including product specifications, fixture types, and control systems.

  • Lighting Control Design: Design and implement lighting control systems, including switching groupings and dimming solutions, in accordance with project requirements.

  • Calculations and compliance: Use relevant software to produce lighting calculations and comply with various lighting and building codes

Ideal Characteristics

  • Creativity: A strong sense of creativity and innovation in lighting design.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in producing technical lighting details using hand sketches, CAD, and Bluebeam.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.

  • Product Knowledge: Familiarity with a wide range of international luminaires and lighting products.

  • Project Coordination: Experience with on-site project coordination during construction phases.

  • Project Life Cycle Understanding: Understand the various stages of a project life cycle, from concept to design development, tender, construction, and commissioning.

  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Software Skills

  • Photoshop

  • InDesign (preferred)

  • Dialux Evo and or AGi32

  • Microsoft Suit

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years as a Lighting Designer in similar firm or consultancy

  • In addition to a CV please provide a portfolio demonstrating lighting design experience across different types of projects, including residential, commercial, hospitality, and transportation.
