Job Description: Advisor, Systems Engineering

What does a great “Advisor, Systems Engineering - Site Reliability Engineer (iSeries), Advisor I” do?

Site Reliability Engineer will be focused on improving the customer experience of Fiserv’s products by improving their availability, reliability, and sustainability alongside our development teams. A high degree of collaboration with Development, Project Management and other Operations teams is required to provide right level of agility within a defined delivery process. The ideal candidate will leverage a consultative approach, exhibit strong leadership skills, will be forward thinking, and will be able to work effectively across a multitude of technical and non-technical groups in a diverse and talented team, continuously striving for excellence.

The role is required to be performed from Fiserv India offices providing overlap with US working hours, hence working from 2PM to 11PM (IST) shift for all 5 working days in a week.

What you will do:

Support operational teams working on Fiserv products to meet SLOs and SLAs

Work closely with development teams to implement and improve SLIs and SLOs for their services

Identify and develop processes, tools, automation, infrastructure improvements and software changes to address top operational issues

Exert technical influence to shape the implementation of Fiserv products and establishing strong operational readiness across teams

Utilize hands-on technical skills to partner with team members and be comfortable diving into the fray as needed

Diagnose complex problems, develop metrics to measure them, and implement monitoring solutions to manage them

Build automation and systems to maintain software and hardware lifecycle management

Leverage programming experience to reduce toil

Engage, influence, and evangelize SRE practices with development, operational and product groups to align technology service/solution delivery.

Drive quality accountability within the organization with well-defined processes, metrics, and goals for process quality. This includes leading effective postmortems and ensuring actions are followed-up.

Manage availability, latency, scalability, and efficiency of applications development by instilling engineering reliability into our development life cycle with a

focus on fault tolerant approaches

Drive capacity planning, performance analysis, instrumentation, and other non-functional systems requirements

Define and report "progress" on strategic initiates and project level tasks to all stakeholders including senior executives, clients and use effective communication approaches with each constituency

Implement metrics driven processes to ensure service quality targets are met

What you will need to have:

At least 8+ years in a Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Infrastructure focused role

Strong experience scripting with Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript

Passion for designing and building reliable systems

Experience with deploying, supporting, and monitoring new and existing services, platforms, and application stacks

Strong experience supporting customer-facing applications on Windows/Linux platforms

Monitoring experience leveraging Splunk, ExtraHop, Prometheus, etc

Strong fundamental understanding of Networking and Security

Automation advocate – Have an automation first approach

Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, architecture, and core technologies (such as DNS, DHCP, HTTPS).

Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, to share your knowledge, teach what you know, and learn new ways of doing things from your team.

Use the core Site Reliability Engineering principles of change management, monitoring emergency response, capacity planning, and production readiness reviews to run the platform

Monitor and report on service level objectives for a given applications services. Work with business and product owners to establish key performance indicators

Partnering with security engineers and developing plans and automation to respond to new risks and vulnerabilities aggressively and safely

Partner with the broader Fiserv organization to build a culture of rigorously learning from incidents

Unblock, support, and effectively communicate across teams to achieve results

Define roadmap and architecture based on technology and business needs.

What would be great to have:

Experience building or maintaining highly available systems at scale.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines that support a SaaS product.

Experience with capacity planning practices or methodologies

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or Business or equivalent degree is desirable.
