The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care. He/She applies the nursing process to follow the plan of care for patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Licensed Practical Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients and families. He/She works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered.

Minimum Education Completion of a state-approved training program at a Technical School or Community College.

Required Skills Must possess strong computer skills and have the ability to work with multiple computer systems. Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English Must be able to operate standard patient care equipment for services provided Must have knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Must possess skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public Must possess the ability to work well under pressure, to adapt quickly in changing situations, to function dependently and independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of settings.
