Athletic Event Technician

Job Summary

The Athletic/Special Events Technician assists the Athletic/Special Events Specialist by supporting athletic events and activities by marking and painting intramural fields; leading and working with a crew in other aspects of field preparation and set up, and providing support during and clean-up following the events. He/she completes all required OSHA trainings. He/she will participate in snow removal.

Essential Functions

Safety, Public Relations, Vehicle Maintenance and Inspections ¿ to be followed 100% of the time a. Operate all equipment in a safe, effective manner to minimize the risk of injury and property damage b. Deal with campus, MTC and Church employees/visitors in a professional manner c. Operate and maintain a clean university vehicle d. Perform daily pre and post trip inspections

*1. Athletic field prep *     a. Measure, mark and paint fields     b. Move any equipment needed

2. Operate Landscape Equipment     a. Mowers, edgers, aerators, etc.

*3. Lead and work with a crew of up to 4 students *     a. Mentor and train     b. Timecards daily     c. Training documentation

4. Event support     a. During events and activities     b. Clean-up responsibilities following events and activities     c. Must be willing to work flexible shifts; sporting events

5. Snow Removal     a. On call to work within a team scope in assigned snow removal area to clear walks, stairs, roads, plazas, crosswalks and ADA areas, parking lots and as necessary, athletic fields, in a safe and nondestructive manner.

Minimum education/experience required: 1 year experience in field maintenance or related field with BYU Grounds

Preferred: B.S. in horticulture or related field/certified in sports turf maintenance/5+ years¿ experience in field maintenance

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications ¿ Ability to pass post-offer physical exam ¿ License/certified to operate specialized equipment/ability to obtain shortly after hire ¿ Understanding of turf maintenance for optimum athlete playability ¿ Good supervising, mentoring, and training skills ¿ Ability to work courteously with those at the MTC, Temple, and BYU ¿ Ability to respect and adhere to safety guidelines ¿ Effective record keeping skills ¿ Basic computer skills ¿ word and excel ¿ Professional attitude, dress and adherence to the University¿s Honor Code

Employee Class: 3/4 Time (28 hour) Work Location: Provo Campus Environment: Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters

Physical Exam Required: Y Physical Exam Details: Shovel, rake, hand tools 2-3 hours Daily Gloves, closed-toe shoes Mower, trimmer, edger, blower, sod cutter, painter 2-3 hours Daily Hearing protection, gloves, closed-toe shoes Snow removal Seasonally As needed Warm hat, gloves, coat, boots, layered clothing, sunscreen, hearing and eye protection as needed

Pay Level: 46 Ap proximate Starting Salary: $16.00 per hour to $20.25 per hour depending on qualifications and experience
