Princeton University is seeking an administrative director for our National Science Foundation (NSF) Engines development hub. The NSF Engines development grant on Advancing Photonics Technologies, led by Princeton University, is one of 44 hubs awarded in support of the creation of regional innovation hubs to support economic growth and development. This hub will be focused on work force development efforts, educational development efforts, use-inspired research, and planning and organizing the regional optics and photonics research and industrial communities in preparation for subsequent funding opportunities.

The hub director will be experienced in administration and management of multiple people and organizations. They will oversee existing subcontractors and be responsible for recruiting and vetting potential partners. The director will oversee the planning effort including serving on the executive leadership group and ex-officio each of the six working groups. They will be responsible for maintaining and supporting the membership of the hub and will be the primary person responsible for implementing hub initiatives. The director will assist with report creation and communications with NSF. They will be responsible for coordinating the preparation of proposals for subsequent granting opportunities as well as assisting with other forms of support for the hub.

This is a 2-year term position.

Responsibilities

Program Management and Collaboration:• Collaborate with the Hub Director and the Hub leadership team to set strategic goals and objectives.• Oversee grant subcontractors, ensure targets and goals are met.• Recruit and vet potential industrial, academic, government partners for the hub• Serve on executive leadership committee• Serve ex-officio on each of six current working groups and any additional working groups that may form• Main coordinator of proposals in response to subsequent grant and funding opportunities for hub and hub members• Work closely with PIs and other entities within Princeton to draft hub bylaws, partner agreements, memoranda of understanding and other contracts/agreements needed by the hub and hub members.

Communications and Outreach:• Maintain and support members of the hub, ensure regular and robust communications• Manage communications effort including web resources, social media, government relations• Plan annual Hub symposium and other talks/conferences• Attend relevant conferences and events to promote hub and partner institutions • Manage relationships with other regional efforts including I-Crops Northeast Hub, NSF-ART teams, other Engine teams, manufacturing USA institutes, and other potential partners.

Program Analytics:• Prepare reports for the Hub leadership team and NSF such as annual grant reports, monthly leadership agenda items, team’s success stories, etc. • Direct assessment activities.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication, and analytical skills. Ability to work well in a team.• Master’s degree in business and/or related science field (physics, optics, engineering, etc.)• 3 or more years of first-hand experience with optics/photonics technical area either through industry or academia.• Strong passion for entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial education.• Ability to maintain confidentiality; work independently and/or as a team member; handle multiple assignments concurrently and re-prioritize; successfully adapt to rapid change; build coalitions; and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders (e.g., students, faculty, successful entrepreneurs, venture investors, corporate representatives, other universities, government officials).• Special requirements: Ability to work a flexible schedule, as the responsibilities of the position may require some travel as well as participation in evening and weekend activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with NSF-Engines program, in particular with reviewing NSF Engines proposals strongly preferred• Experience with federal and state grant proposal writing strongly preferred.• Established relationships with optical/photonics companies in the region preferred.• 3 or more years of experience with state and/or federal government programs in economic or workforce development preferred
