About Princeton Small town living on the doorstep of the Okanagan and Lower Mainland. Princeton, BC is located at the juncture of the Tulameen and Similkameen rivers approximately 1 ½ hours from Kelowna, Penticton and Kamloops, and about 2 ½ hours from Vancouver. This beautiful community offers a pool, ice rink, baseball fields, cross-country ski trails, tennis courts, mountain bike trails, a Jr. B hockey team, and several great restaurants with a variety of foods. Princeton Lumber is one of the largest employers in the community and has been in operation more than 50 years.

We are seeking a full-timeJourneyman Welderfor ourPrinceton BCsawmill. The ideal candidate is committed to safety and has a desire to work in a team environment within a manufacturing facility while maintaining a positive attitude and good work ethic. Reporting to a maintenance supervisor, the Welder is a key player on the maintenance team. The rate for a journeyman welder is $46.08 per hour.

In this role, you will be responsible for the welding, fabrication, repair, installation and modification using MIG, ARC and TIG welding processes.

Key functions:

  • Role models and leads safety process to enhance the safety culture and sustain our strong safety record.
  • Determine welding needs and offer recommendations for desired repairs and outcomes.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and other documents as required.
  • Perform repairs and installation on a variety of equipment and structures.
  • Trouble shoot equipment mechanical issues.
  • Participate in presentative maintenance on key machine centers, general equipment repairs and related project work.
  • Develop patterns for projects or follow directions given in layouts and work orders.
  • Clean, check for defects and shape component parts, sometimes using a cutting torch.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel when the welding workload allows.
  • Ensure all company safety procedures and protocols are followed
  • Willingness to fully cross train in other technical areas to enhance capabilities
  • Work with computerized maintenance systems for processes, stores, work orders, etc.

  • Red seal certification and qualification for Certified Welder (CWB)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience as fully qualified Welder in an industrial / manufacturing environment. Experience in a sawmill a strong asset.
  • Excellent computer skills and intermediate skills in MS office products.
  • Demonstrated initiative with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects effectively and safely.
  • Excellent teamwork, cooperation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, listening and overall communication skills.
  • Must be team oriented; puts team’s needs ahead of individual needs and works to develop trusting respectful relationships.
  • Must be willing to work any shift, including rotating shifts plus weekends and holidays as operating conditions require. Note: this is not ‘camp work’.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as operating conditions require.
  • Willingness and physical ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, climb stairs, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in an industrial environment containing wood dust and extreme heat and cold.
  • Maintains an acceptable attendance record.
  • Resume detailing education and work history is required for consideration.
  • Offers of employment will be conditional upon satisfactory completion of substance testing, background check, fitness for work testing, and agreement with general terms of employment.
