Position Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Development Services Supervisor, and general supervision of the department leadership team (Planning Manager/Chief Building Official/Director), performs a variety of customer service-related functions for both internal and external customers. Receives, reviews, verifies, intakes and distributes building permit and planning project applications and plan sets for internal and agency review, including the cross-check of supporting documents for proper form, sufficiency of information, and general conformance with application requirements, Land Development Codes, and various City Codes and Ordinances.

Essential Duties:

This list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by positions in this class. All essential functions fall under anadministrativeskill set, with focus on the processes that support local development, and in particular the areas of building and land development.

  • Assists customers in a professional and friendly manner in the submittal, processing, and successful review of building permit and planning project applications; receives and processes payments for development applications/building permits. Receives, logs and routes plans and reports; reviews and confirms complete permit and project applications and supporting documents upon intake. Tracks plan review process and monitors status of plan reviews as needed to assist with customer inquiries and overall permit and project progress.
  • Serves as one of several primary contacts within the department for telephone, email, and in-person requests from builders, contractors, engineers, architects, and the general public. Retrieves data from computer or hard copy files, answers and documents questions, and provides administrative support to the Permitting group and the Planning Division.
  • Files, manages, and maintains construction drawings received in electronic formats, and assists with departmental records retention and public records requests as needed.
  • Position will cross-train with other departments involved in private development plan review, permitting and inspections.
