General Overview

Teledyne RD Instruments is focused on maintaining industry leadership by providing best-in-class products, services and solutions for the marine instrument, vehicle and equipment markets. We are hiring a Senior Quality Manager to lead our Quality Management System, enlisting customers as partners to work together in relationships built on mutual trust and benefit. We strive to continually evolve our products and services to meet our customer’s and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

The Senior Quality Manager leads and manages the activities of quality assurance systems and processes, including but not limited to, internal audits, CAPA, MRB, calibration, training, process metrics, etc. Develops, implements and manages product assurance program proactively to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products by performing duties personally or through the Quality Team. Oversees development and implementation of standards, methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision, accuracy and reliability of company products. Focuses on ISO program improvements and enhancing documented procedures and work instructions. Develops budget and monitors expenditures. Makes recommendations for corrective action necessary to ensure conformity with quality specifications. Ensures finished products conform to government and company standards and satisfy good manufacturing practices regulations. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Proactively collaborates with business unit executive team to formulate long-term business strategy, road map and detailed plans for executing the Quality Management Program and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Responsible for ensuring ongoing site compliance of ISO requirements, as well as other relevant quality standards.

  • Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements and implementing change.

  • Develops quality assurance plans by conducting hazard analyses; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures and monitoring inventories.

  • Validates quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes; measuring production; documenting evidence; determining operational and performance qualification and writing and updating quality assurance procedures.

  • Maintains and improves product quality by completing product, company, system, compliance, and surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs, manufacturing and training methods.

  • Prepares quality documentation, metrics and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends, including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions and re-validations.

  • Interfaces with customers, auditors, government representatives and suppliers to improve the quality of products and services.

  • Manages the coordination and control of supplier quality, calibration, nonconforming material, internal audits and other quality functions.

  • Internal Audits – participates in internal audit program to proactively identify and correct non-compliances within products and processes.

  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

  • CAPA – provides analysis of CAPA system to ensure it is being used effectively to address and close product and process non-conformances.

  • MRB – provides analysis of MRB process to ensure it effectively dispositions and transacts non-conforming material in a timely manner.

  • Calibration – provides assurance that the calibration program is compliant with ISO 9001 requirements.

  • Process Metrics – provides assurance that appropriate metrics for the Internal Audit, CAPA, MRB, Deviation and Production processes are collected, analyzed, reported and trended over time to assure continual improvement.

  • ISO 9001 Program – actively participates in assuring ISO9001 program remain compliant with requirements. Coordinates internal and external compliance audits and resulting corrective actions.

  • Receiving Inspection - provides assurance that the Receiving Inspection process is compliant with ISO 9001 requirements.

  • Training – provides assurance that training programs are complete, documented and effective.

  • Production processes – provides assurance critical production processes used to manufacture, test, inspect and deliver high quality technical, electromechanical assemblies are complete, documented and effective.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has supervisory responsibilities to the process. Supervises staff employee(s) and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of same. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in a related positions and 10+ years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 9001 in a manufacturing environment

  • Knowledge of AS9100 is highly preferred

  • Basic knowledge of PCBA soldering IAW IPC 610 Class II, Cable Assembly IAW IPC 620 and Connector Assembly

  • General knowledge of mechanical housing manufacturing and plating, to include anodize

  • Leadership experience with a quality assurance or operations team in an electronics manufacturing industry

  • Demonstrated experience with generating, maintaining and presenting quality metrics in PowerPoint and Excel formats. Expert level ability highly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to generate, update, implement and maintain quality assurance process documentation

  • Demonstrated experience in planning and conducting process audits

  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and managing Corrective Action and Preventive Action programs. Unipoint experience is preferred.

  • Proven success in a continuous improvement environment

  • Limited travel may be required

  • Experience in a Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S environment is highly preferred

  • Experience in conducting, implementing and monitoring formal training programs and projects

  • Experience in coordinating and managing calibration programs

Salary Range:

$118,800.00-$158,730.000

The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
