Advocate on behalf of Central Hudson customers for fair and cost-effective policy actions in public industry forums. Perform load forecasting and analysis of wholesale electric and natural gas market dynamics to procure short and long-term energy resources to meet load requirements. What does an Energy Buyer do?•Creates & issues electric and natural gas daily load forecasts•Originates, structures, negotiates and schedules wholesale electric and natural gas term purchases in NYISO administered electric markets via NYISO market and bilateral purchases in NY electric markets and on interstate natural gas pipelines•Develops and manages the supply and hedge portfolio to meet the projected daily electric and gas requirements by managing a portfolio of supply options, which include gas peaking and storage resources, futures contracts, contracts for differences, or other financial or physical instruments•Keeps abreast of current issues and trends in natural gas and electric wholesale energy markets; participates actively in industry meetings that involve policy actions and recommendations•Maintains a thorough understanding of the electric and natural gas utility industry and regulatory requirements of all agencies affecting electric and gas supply issues •Assists in the preparation of budgets and studies as they relate to the electric/gas function. •Collaborates with other departments within the corporation, while developing and maintaining outside industry contacts, meeting federal, state and regulatory agency requirements and participating in the planning of regional market changes that encourage wholesale competition •This position requires on call responsibilities approximately one weekend per month•Supports storm/emergency restoration effortsWhat does it take to be an Energy Buyer? Required:•Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Accounting, or other analytical discipline. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, an associate’s degree and 5+ years equivalent work experience of equivalent work experience within the energy commodity field.•Must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills•Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision•Demonstrated implementation of creative and innovative solutions•Shows understanding and courtesy and maintains effective company and industry relationships. •Strong computer software skills•Valid driver’s license Preferred:•Master’s degree in in Finance, Economics or Engineering•Experience in energy policy and trading or operations of wholesale (transmission) electric & gas marketsApplications will be accepted until December 20, 2023.This position has a career path which allows for advancement opportunities within a job series.
