Overview

Position:Youth Program Coordinator

Location:Pottsville Corps

Availability of Position: Part time Plus - 25 hours a week

Schedule: Tuesday – Friday program hours & evenings/weekend hrs as needed.

Reporting Relationship: Corps Officer

Salary and Grade:$ 14.00 per hour (73 non-Exempt)

    Position Overview:

    The Youth Programs Coordinator (YPC) will oversee the daily operations of TSA’s after school programming, summer camp and Vacation Bible School. The YPC will help to plan, lead, and supervise enriching activities for program

    participants. The YPC must possess the ability to lead, adapt and a willingness to take on challenges and think creatively. The YPC must supervise volunteers and ensure that volunteer is properly implementing curriculum, lesson

    plans, policies and collecting stats and attendance reports and submitting them in a timely basis. Modeling honest, positive and ethical behaviors and practices is absolutely necessary.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:

  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of youth program components as listed above. Duties include attendance tracking, behavior tracking and management, assisting with data collection for outcome measurements, supervising/leading youth through daily activities, creating lesson plans for daily activities, utilizing program curriculum and adding/revising curriculum.

  • Build positive trusting relationships with youth.

  • Supervise assigned volunteers.

  • Ensure all youth programs are covered.

  • Create, organize, lead and promote interest in activities such as organized recreation/physical education, nutrition education, youth ministry, homework assistance, arts and crafts.

  • Enforce program behavior policies and report incidents to the Corps Officer.

  • Assist in collecting data for United Way Outcome Measurement.

  • Identify areas that can be further enhanced and developed through training.

  • Maintain communication with Corps Officers concerning needs, suggestions and issues.

  • After discussion with Corps Officer contact parents when necessary, regarding disciplinary measures/issues.

  • Purchase program supplies as directed following protocol for receipts and processing. Ensure all purchases are approved by Corps Officer.

  • Lead Youth Ministry components of programs as assigned.

  • Plan appropriate activities for youth group and submit lesson plans to Corps Officer.

  • Close building daily as needed following procedures.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • 2 to 4 years of work-related experience in the areas of youth programming, tutoring, coaching, and/or summer programming. Experience in educational programs, youth recreation and youth ministry a plus.

  • Knowledge of cultural flexibility, competency in working with multi-cultural participants and experience working with un-churched youth.

  • Leadership training or experience.

  • High School Diploma or GED, education degree (or in progress) a plus.

  • Computer skills.

  • Valid PA driver’s license.

  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certification.

  • A Christian familiar with the principles of Christian living found in the New Testament and seeking God’s guidance for help in his/her daily walk or an active soldier in The Salvation Army and attend a corps regularly

  • As a Mandated Report the candidate is required to comply with PA Child Protective Services Law Clearances and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check and KeepSafe.

  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
