Heavy Equipment Operator

No two days are the same! Crofton is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team.

The ideal Heavy Equipment Operator will operate heavy machinery for construction, demolition, or excavation projects.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Operates construction, excavation, hauling, and maintenance equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, excavators, or grade tractors.
  • Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation.
  • Uses excavating machinery to dig holes and trenches used in structural concrete.
  • Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.
  • Uses equipment to prepare building sites for exterior site concrete such as parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, and loading docks.
  • Operates machinery used to build bridges, roads, and railroads.
  • Inspects and fuels vehicle prior to beginning shift.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.
  • Ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grades.
  • Excellent mechanical skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Manual dexterity
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
  • Exposure to construction and marine site dangers.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • Noisy environments.
  • Ability to respond quickly to sounds.
  • Able to traverse all areas of the jobsite in all types of weather; this may require walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
