ManTech Engineering Technician in Portsmouth, Virginia

Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer orientated Engineer or Engineering Technician to join our team supporting Norfolk Naval Shipyard. This position is located in Portsmouth, VA.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Applies engineering knowledge and experience to support the planning and preparation of Technical Working Documents (TWD) such as: CVN and summaries, Task Group Instructions (TGIs), and Deficiency Forms (DFs)

  • Support ordering of materials, services, rental equipment for ongoing and upcoming CVN availabilities

  • Perform ship checks for interferences, develop estimates, and prepare and issue TWDs

  • Support a team environment based on mutual respect and teamwork, dedicated to innovation and effective, efficient work practices

  • Supports the Task Lead in providing overall excellent contract performance to the client

  • Collect, review, and analyze information to make recommendations to the Government

  • Report findings and recommendations to the Government. Reports are usually submitted in writing, but oral presentations regarding findings also are common

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Naval Architecture and 4+ years of practical Design Engineering, or practical Field Engineering experience OR A High School Diploma and a minimum of ten (10) years of practical Design Engineering, or practical Field Engineering experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience providing problem analysis and resolution including system and component troubleshooting, for the U.S. Naval Ships or submarines, in responsible engineering duties, Including the following which may have been gained concurrently

  • 2+ years of consecutive experience (within the last 5 years) involving practical design and working plan development or practical field engineering for construction, conversion or modernization and repair of U.S. Naval Ships (does not include maritime ship design) in the specialty required herei

  • Carrier, Volplane, Nuclear (CVN) Experience

  • Technical experience in either Mechanical, Electrical, Structural or Combat Systems Engineering Disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advance Industrial Management (AIM), Advance Industrial Management Support System (ATIS), Technical Information Manual (TIM), HAYSTACK GOLD, Industrial Process Instruction (IPI), Computer Industrial Technical Information System (CITIS), Conversion Liaison Instruction (CVLI's)

  • Maintenance Standards, Tech Manuals, and Current Ship's Maintenance Project (CSMP's), Shift Operations Management System (SOMS), Material Requirements (MRQT), Schedule Planning and Report Kit (SPaRK)

  • Joint Engineering Data Management Information and Control System (JEDMICS)

  • Naval Ships Engineering Drawing Repository (NSEDR)

  • Construction, maintenance, overhaul, and modernization of CVN 78 class carriers

  • CVN FORD Class is preferred

Clearance Requirements:

  • US Citizenship is required and an active Secret Clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform ship Checks which involves going onboard CVN, climbing ladders, traversing passageways, and climbing through hatches.

  • Operate and manipulate Typical Office equipment.

  • Be able to communicate professionally with ManTech employees and ManTech clients.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

  • Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which will involve delivering presentations.
