Summary of Position** The Certified Peer Support Specialist is a current or former consumer of substance abuse services who is able to provide recovery- oriented training, education and support to individuals receiving outpatient services for SUD. Responsibilities of Position ? Attends recovery education orientation trainings which may include, for example: Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Training, WRAP facilitator training, Case Management Training, state sponsored trainings in leadership, consumer employment, etc. ? Educates or trains peers in groups or individually on the hope and principles of recovery, the nature of the disorder, medications prescribed, etc. ? Works with clients/patients to identify the factors most important to their own recovery and encourages participation in their treatment. ? Collaborates and coordinates with the assigned mental health professional, the treatment team and the client/patient in providing correct information for clients with questions or concerns related to the nature of the disorder, the medications they are taking and participation in their treatment planning. ? Assists clients/patients in building community supports. ? Modeling personal responsibility for recovery. ? Performs care coordination duties as required. ? Understands and maintains HIPAA and 42CFR Part 2 confidentiality standards. ? Exhibits professional and caring manner with clients, patients and families. ? The delivery of quality services and positive interaction with all our customers, internal and external, is critical to the completion of all the tasks within this job description, and thus the employee is responsible for establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors and employees in a courteous, respectful and professional manner. Guidelines include all policies and procedures and the guidelines and code of ethics of the appropriate professional association (e.g. American Psychological Association, American Counseling Association, National Association of Social Workers, etc.). ? Performs and/or coordinates other special assignments and tasks, as required by the Clinical Director. Minimum Qualifications - Must be at least 18 years old. - Be a high school graduate or have a General Educational Degree (GED). - Must self-identify as a current or former consumer of substance abuse services. - Must have demonstrated substance abuse recovery of two years and can provide written certification. - Certified by OMHAS as a Peer Support Specialist Necessary Skills and Abilities ? Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. ? Ability to support people in an emotional situation. ? Familiarity with recovery principles. ? Willingness to work from a position of lived experience. ? Ability to work independently and collaboratively. ? Professional appearance of documentation and work area. ? Reliable; exhibits good attendance. ? Personable, models respect when interacting with others. ? Maintains confidentiality and discretion as a rule. Special Requirements - Excellent communication skills. Ability to operate telephones, fax and copier.
