Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Precision Assembler & Surface Finish Technician to support our manufacturing team located in Portland, OR!

Mechanics/Technicians in this position assemble precision aircraft components and sub-assemblies such as control linkages, actuators, limit switches and gear box assemblies.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Use computing equipment to obtain information (e.g., engineering drawings, specifications).

  • Obtain kitted (pre-picked) detail parts, standards and assemblies.

  • Select proper tooling kit (e.g., holding fixtures, drill motors, reamers) to perform work on parts/assemblies, as required.

  • Operate overhead crane to locate parts/assemblies (e.g., flaptracks, landing gear beams) into position to perform assembly work, as required.

  • Locate parts on assembly tools, mating parts and/or assemblies per drawing, W/O, or tooling instructions.

  • Align parts to tool stops, matching pilot holes or by hand layout and secure in place using Clecos or clamps.

  • Check for good edge margins and alignment.

  • Shim parts as required.

  • Drill, ream, and countersink full size holes in parts/assemblies in proper sequence and to correct size, per drawing, W/O or tooling instructions using power tools (e.g., drill motors, Quackenbush tool, Cleco motors) as required.

  • Hone/ream features in parts using pneumatic tools for installation of bushings and bearings on parts/assemblies.

  • Disassemble parts and deburr holes using deburring tools and files to prepare for installation of fasteners.

  • Use solvents to clean surfaces prior to sealing or assembly. Install bushings into housings using arbor press, C-squeeze and/or hydraulic puller.

  • Apply liquid nitrogen to facilitate installation of bushings, as required, per BAC specifications.

  • Cold work holes to prepare for close tolerance fastener installation, as required. Perform surface/fay seal (e.g., BMS 5-95) on bushings/bearings and other part installations.

  • Roller/anvil swage or ball stake bearings and bushings into housings. Install hardware on electrical assemblies.

  • Use insertion tools to install wiring in plugs.

  • Perform functional check of ground studs to ensure proper operations.

  • Use multimeter and power supply to calibrate (WOW) Weight On Wheels sensor per specifications.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous material (e.g., sealants and solvents) in approved manner per (MSDS) Material Specification Data Sheets.

  • Install fasteners per drawing using correct tools. Torque fasteners.

  • Micro shave high rivets to meet drawing requirements.

  • Apply sealant, alodine, primer, special finishes, as required by W/O, drawing or BAC specifications.

  • Clean parts and identify by part marking.

  • Present completed job or in-process checks to inspector at appropriate steps in sequence.

  • Perform minor rework, as required.

  • Contact team leader or supervisor when assistance is needed or when any problem arises.

  • Maintain personal and tool certifications (e.g., bond and ground, crane handling, seal, LN2), as required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.

  • Experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators.

  • Must be willing and able to work any shift.

  • Experience with training or reading and interpreting drawings or blueprints.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • GED

  • Electrical and Mechanical Assembly experience.

Typical Education/Experience:

High School graduate.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Union Representation:

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinist (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary pay range: $24.50/hour - $42.80/hour
