Boeing Commercial Airplanes has an exciting opportunity for a Grinder Operator to join our manufacturing team in Portland, OR.

A grinder operator will completely and independently set up, operate, program, prove out, adjust as required, prep work (lap) prior to machining, etc., assigned thread, internal, centerless, rotary, external or surface grinders to rough out and finish machine complete per engineering/ model base definition and quality requirements/specifications, including anything the machines may be adapted too.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Use any and all precision measuring instruments, gauges, tools, etc., necessary to set up machine and/or check machined parts.

  • Select and secure proper tools, fixtures, machine attachments, equipment, etc., to expeditiously accomplish work, and on approval, devise and make precision checking fixtures to check own work.

  • Work with and interpret charts, tables, blueprints, solid model definition, handbook formula sketches, written and/or verbal orders, layouts, etc., and use shop mathematics including trigonometry.

  • Do own layout for assigned work.

  • Perform any bench work necessary to complete parts to required engineering/quality specifications.

  • Including using hand finish tools/power tools.

  • Follow manufacturing operations (MO) plan.

  • Responsible for communicating process improvements to manufacturing plan through proper processes and procedures.

  • Responsible for full utilization of machine capability and minimizing the amounts of machining and/or number of setups.

  • Use and adjust feed of oils and coolants.

  • Check coolant/oil for concentration and levels.

  • Detect faulty tools and take corrective action in accordance with shop practices and shop procedures.

  • Make preparations and adjustments as required, ensuring proper machine operation.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience in operating Grinders

  • Capable of lifting, pushing and pulling up to 35 pounds

  • 3+ years of experience reading and interpreting aerospace engineering drawings and blueprints

  • 3+ years of experience with using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers and dial indicators, etc.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • High School diploma or GED preferred

Typical Education:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 2nd shift.

Union Representation:

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinist (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary pay range: $23.00/hour - $46.58/hour
