Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a General Machinist in Portland, OR !

General Machinists set up, operate and adjust numerous types of Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) single and multiple tool machining centers. These machines may include but are not limited to grinders, lathes, planers, and milling machines. They utilize custom control media, setups and program documents, to fabricate close tolerance, high quality parts from metals, plastics and composite materials

Position Responsibilities:

  • Within an assigned machining area, completely and independently setup, adjust, and regularly operate a variety of precision machines*, such as lathes, grinders, NC and manual milling machines, boring machines to perform machining functions.

  • Set up and operate a universal precision machine*, which routinely performs a variety of functions, such as but not limited to turning, boring, milling.

  • Select, devise, develop and fabricate shop aids required to complete work assignments.

  • Select, devise, develop and fabricate shop aids required to complete work assignments.

  • Work with and interpret prints, solid model design, sketches, diagrams, specifications, verbal information, handbook formulas, job layouts, etc., and use shop mathematics including trigonometry and geometry.

  • Perform layout necessary to accomplish own work assignment.

  • Perform assembly work and surface finishing as required.

  • Use and operate all precision measuring instruments and various methods necessary to complete and check own work assignment.

  • Provide part quality information and statistics as required.

  • Select proper tools, fixtures, machine attachments, equipment, etc., necessary to complete work assignment.

  • Make preparations and adjustments as required, ensuring proper machine operation.

  • Monitor machining system operations including electrical/electronic and mechanical diagnostics and cutter, probe, and sensor data and make appropriate adjustments.

  • May include programming and operation of NC and CNC machines.​

NOTE: Not intended to operate multiple precision machines simultaneously

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Experience designing/engineering production fixtures for milling, drilling, and assembly

  • Experience setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators

  • Experience in machine parts fabrication

  • Experience as a machine operator, writing and editing CNC programs

  • Experience with CNC machining in a production environment (i.e. CAM optimization, cutter tool selection, GD&T, and/or

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 2nd shift.
