Job Description:

Buyers are responsible for quality, quantity, and margins for scrap material purchased from industrial and dealer accounts.

  • Research business growth in service area to identify possible new customers.

  • Consistently call on potential new dealer and industrial accounts to solicit new business.

  • Write and present proposals to customers.

  • Meet quantity volume and margin requirements which are established by management.

  • Provide detailed daily activity reports that specifically identify your customer contacts, plans for follow-up and upcoming activity. These are crucial components of our overall buying strategy and need to be thorough and timely.

  • Track account activity, adequacy of service and pricing and adjust as appropriate to maintain customer loyalty.

  • Ensure all boxes and product are accounted for, for your customers.

  • Deal with customer service problems courteously and expeditiously.

  • Identify opportunities to increase business with existing customers.

  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with customer and coworkers, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure. Maintain an energetic, knowledgeable, outgoing and interested demeanor when dealing with customers in person or over the phone.

  • Negotiate fairly and effectively, fully documenting all agreements and confirming them with the customer.

  • Where necessary, confirm pricing and service arrangements with management before commitment.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Scrap metal/metal recycling purchasing background a huge plus

  • Industrial experience secondary

  • Six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; or Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
