Robert Half Accounting Manager/Supervisor in Portland, Maine

Description We are searching for an Accounting Manager/Supervisor to join our team in the education sector based in Portland, Maine. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing accounting functions, conducting budget analysis, maintaining financial records, and ensuring compliance with policies.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and monitor daily operations of the Business Office and its staff.

• Monitor and analyze expenditures and revenues, and conduct monthly budget analyses.

• Establish and monitor procedures to guarantee accurate and timely reconciliation of accounts.

• Review and approve all journal entries and budget amendments ensuring they comply with policy.

• Act as the liaison between City Finance and School Department on account reconciliation issues.

• Perform pre-audit tasks and provide necessary information to auditors.

• Respond to questions or requests for information pertaining to the budget.

• Maintain the chart of accounts structure for all funds.

• Exercise initiative and judgment in analyzing the operational needs of the department.

• Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.

• Utilize Accounting Software Systems, Microsoft Excel, and ADP - Payroll for various accounting tasks.

Skills:

• Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems, Microsoft Excel, and ADP - Payroll.

• Ability to handle Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) along with other Accounting Functions.

• Experience in handling Billing Functions and Month End Close.

• Familiarity with Audit - Financial. Requirements

• Must have a minimum of five years of experience as an Accounting Manager or Supervisor in the Education industry

• Proficient in Accounting Software Systems

• Expertise in performing all Accounting Functions

• Experience with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Familiar with Billing Functions and ADP - Payroll

• Skilled in Month End Close operations

• Experience in Audit - Financial

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required, Master's degree preferred

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is a plus

• Excellent leadership and team management skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks

• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation

• Strong knowledge of financial regulations and legislation.
