The Driver Simulation Trainer (position located in Porter, Indiana) is responsible for improving individual driver performance by assessing driver’s skills and the facilitation of simulation education to improve or enhance those skills, and to ensure drivers meet minimum standards set by ATS. The position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, cleanliness, and simulation program delivery at the location assigned. This position will track driver performance and will provide training results to appropriate management and the Safety and Compliance departments.

In addition, this position will be responsible for management of driver participation, scheduling and reporting results. The position will also involve basic maintenance of the simulator hardware and software, working with our vendor to maintain operational effectiveness.

Education and Experience

  1. College degree preferred with occupational training experience, with 2-4 years of previous business/corporate experience in a structured environment. Safety certifications is a plus.

  2. Proven experience conducting training of workers or workgroups on technical elements of job functions and safety.

  3. Experience safely driving a tractor-trailer and securing loads. A current CDL is preferred.

  4. Proficient knowledge, of proper driving techniques and regulatory compliance requirements.

  5. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.

  6. Knowledge and experience with computer systems, operating systems and data bases.

  7. Mechanical aptitude.

  8. Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal).

  9. Ability to comfortably speak in front of groups or by phone.

  10. Ability to stay organized and prioritize work as well as adjust as changes/needs occur.

  11. Ability to design or gather information to create training material and confidently present information.

  12. Ability to analyze situations and come to reasonable solutions.

  13. Must be detail oriented and yet see the big picture.

  14. Ability to deal with stressful situations and remain calm.

  15. Learn and understand all of the speed control alerts, including but not limited to accident mitigation technology.

  16. Ability to deal with confidential information in a discrete and diplomatic manner.

  17. Ability to also speak Spanish would be beneficial.

  18. Willing and able to travel infrequently, including overnight travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Present predefined courses to students in a classroom environment.

  2. Administer annual simulation training to all ATS Affiliated drivers.

  3. Monitor the program ensuring all drivers are scheduled and complete a simulation training session once a year.

  4. Monitor Driver performance and provide coaching to improve driving behaviors.

  5. Coordinate training efforts with Safety managers, Driver Safety Specialists, and operations leadership.

  6. Champion continuous improvement of simulation training.

  7. Monitor, review and modify simulation training to improve effectiveness.

  8. Validate various training programing for compliance, and sustainability.

  9. Diagnose errors or technical failures and determine proper resolutions.

  10. Develop curriculum, procedure manuals, guides, handouts, course materials, visuals and scenarios for pre-defined and new coursework.

  11. Model safe behaviors and professional interactions.

  12. Perform basic maintenance of the simulator hardware and software.

  13. Produce timely and detailed reports.

  14. Operate vehicle in a safe manner and within Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

  15. Follow and help enforce all company's policies and procedures.

  16. Build positive relationships with drivers.

  17. Assist with new driver Orientation training program as needed/directed.
