*Job Summary:  * Supervises the cafeteria, hallways, and in-school suspension (ISS) room during the school day as well as study halls and the parking lot. Keeps disciplinary referral records and provides tutoring assistance in ISS. Serves as substitute teacher in classrooms if needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities/Cafeteria Supervisor:

  • Provides cafeteria and hall supervision during the school day; checks passes of students in hallways and as they leave the building.
  • Supervises the cafeteria during three lunch periods and enforces established rules.
  • Checks restrooms, assures that students return to class punctually, and assures that students to not leave the allowed areas prior to designated times.
  • Supervises the in-school suspension room and provides tutoring assistance to students assigned to ISS.
  • Keeps computerized records on disciplinary referrals.
  • Works to provide a safe and positive school environment.
  • Work alongside staff to enforce behavioral expectations.
  • Substitute teaching duties on as needed basis.
  • Assists staff as necessary.
  • Work with colleagues effectively and cooperatively.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Regular and consistent attendance
  • Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Handbook

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. 
  • The equivalent of 2 years of college (60 semester credits) or an Associate's degree or higher *OR *the successful completion of the MDE approved Paraprofessional standards test (ETS).
  • Experience working with children. 
  • Demonstrated ability and experience working effectively with staff, students and community.
  • Demonstrated abilities in the area of interpersonal communication.
  • A high degree of patience, ability and willingness to learn new skills and take direction.
  • Willingness to engage in building activities.
