Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for completing anthropometric measurements, the Hemoglobin screening for WIC applicants as well as income eligibility determination, benefit issuance and 2nd nutrition contacts for WIC clients.

Measures height/stature and weight of WIC clients using Center for Disease Control equipment/methods. Obtains a blood screening sample to measure hemoglobin values using Standard Precautions and following OSHA guidelines. If this medical data is available from another entity and current to within sixty days of certification, then it will be used, and the measurements/test not repeated. Calibrates the Hemoglobin analyzer machines, invasive and non-invasive, to assure accuracy according to guides.

Collects lab data results and enters in FL-Wise system and on a Hemoglobin log. Reviews immunization records and checks Florida Shots for up-to-date records.

If needed, submits request for records to providers if not available on day of service. Cleans laboratory equipment daily. Assists with inventory of lab supplies and requests for orders in a timely fashion. Dispose of blood contaminated items in Biohazard safety disposal containers. Assures Biohazard collection is requested as needed. Performs duties utilizing a teamwork approach to assure program objectives are coordinated with other staff to achieve desired results. Maintains client confidentiality and security in accordance with DOHP50-10-10 Information Security & Privacy Policy Confidential Information. Employee arrives to work on time and is ready for client services at the start of the business day.

Interviews clients to determine WIC income eligibility. Collects client demographic data and obtains necessary documentation. Explains WIC program eligibility and application procedures. Follows notification of ineligibility procedures as applicable. Registers and maintains client records in the WIC FL-Wise system. Completes WIC EBT benefit issuance per state WIC procedures. Maintains EBT cards, VOC/ID cards and inventory records separately and securely. Explains WIC EBT redemption procedures and appointment policy to clients. Documents client nutrition education in computer accurately. Completes the second nutrition contact for issuance appointments. Documents client refusal of nutrition education in the WIC FL-Wise. Successfully completes the Florida Nutrition Training Modules as required for the 2nd nutrition contacts completion. Distributes nutrition questionnaires and enters data in computer system.

Telephones clients to confirm appointments and reschedule no-shows. Returns calls from voicemail and call back logs daily. Completes reports as assigned. Participates in WIC and Health Department training including in customer service, voter registration, confidentiality, OSHA, civil rights, and all other required trainings. Assists with maintaining office cleanliness at front, common areas, in the lab and waiting rooms.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of blood handling and screening blood tests. Computer skills, telephone skills, achieves competency in FL-Wise data system, successful completion of the Florida Nutrition Modules Training series. Hematology machines, anthropometric tools.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • One year customer service experience

  • Driver’s License, if out of state a Florida Driver’s License Is required with 30 days of hire.

  • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an

emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties

including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of various data entry and software programs

  • Bilingual in English/ Spanish or English/ Creole
